I can understand why the dad in the first story felt he didn't want to let his kids go on a field trip after experiencing something like that.

However, I do gotta say that just because something horrible happens doesn't mean something horrible is always going to happen. One of the parents should've told the kids what to do if a situation like that happens. Or if they wanted to take extra precautions or to truly decide whether they wanted them to go or not, they could've checked to see where the field trip would be at and if there would be multiple adults from their kids' school present
