Generation Z VS Technology - Tech Illiterate 'Digital Natives'

preview_player
Показать описание
Generation Z, aka Zoomers, are often referred to as "digital natives" and many of the older generations have the misconception that the zoomers are tech literate, due to being "digital natives". This is however incorrect, most of the zoomers don't even use computers anymore. Basic computing skills is on the decline, which is concerning since using a computer is very common in workplaces. How are the zoomers going do perform in the workforce, if they can't even use a computer?

Besides, most of the zoomers don't even know how their phones work either outside of downloading an app and using snapcrap, tiktok or whatever else zoomers use.

These individuals grew up with touch screens, never managing files systems or
using an actual PC. I started using computers at four in kindergarten (2009).
I am self taught, immediately concluded the tower does all
the "computery things", the monitor is a "smaller television",
the mouse moves the cursor, and the keyboard is a pencil with buttons.
That is all I needed to know a long time ago.
The reason computer illiteracy exists, is because individuals without
the courage for knowledge and creativity, overthink and refuse to learn basic subjects....
because they underestimate their own thinking (an inferiority complex, or arrogance).
My knowledge from before and after has not
changed except for technical details such as, frameworks, libraries,
compilers, polygons, uv mapping, image filtering, nearest-neighbor, every nook and cranny
of all fields from audio codecs to port forwarding.
Astonishing, thinking they know all the buzzwords, and when someone competent
tries to tell them what anything of that means, they overthink it (A real situation: I told someone, a 3D software renders an image with the mathematical model of Sadly, he calls everything a renderer because of that).

Linux has really shown me how an operating system works. I feel like Windows hides all that magic from the user. Whenever I mention to someone the term "file manager", they don't have any clue what it is.

I'm not saying using a Linux distro will 100% make you tech literate, but it's not as straight forward as other mainstream operating systems.

"the floating symbols on the keyboard"

Are they talking about the fucking letters on the keyboard? As a Gen Zer who thinks I have abysmal tech literacy (I can manage files and folders and can do HTML but I didn't know about BIOS until I read this comment section), that's actually foul

The computer in the first video doesn't neccessarily have an Ethernet interface card since it appears to be from the mid-90s when such cards wheren't as common as they are today.
