Dry Fire of a Compound Bow, Bow explosion

Texas Bowhunter Journal and Korbin's Strings team up for this issue's tech tip.
The bow being dry fired is a 2012 PSE Brute X.

The only damage was the tube from the peep popping off.
There was not any string separation.
There were not any cracks or the like found on the bow.

No, the limbs took high amounts of shock because the arrow wasn't there to take the force of the bow. Without the arrow there to take all the energy that is created when you release the energy has to go somewhere and the only place is back up the cams and down the limbs. Because of the mass vibrations the string derails and COULD potentially snap, however in this case I think the string has just unraveled upon derailing.
Also when you derail a bow the limbs hyper extends causing them to break.

I just dry fired my bow. It destroyed my arm and ruined the string. I was more worried about the bow than my black and blue arm. The sad thing is that I live by the rule of never dry fire it, just an accidental brain slip I guess :(

I accidently dry fired my bow when I brought it too an archery shop, it was my first time ever pulling back a bow all the way so I accidntly let it go when I was trying to put it back into position thankfully no damage at all.

Just curious. How come a bow will break when dry firing, but not with an arrow knocked? Is it that big of a difference?

I know this happens but some arrows are so light just wonder why a arrow prevents this

nah it bounced off the cams and let the preasure release from the of that the arms can brake that's why it's bad

ya it looks like servings and the string started to split, up where the string meets the cams

looks to me like a derailment of the string it is no longer taut

Ur lucky if the cams didn't break off or limbs crack..if only string ur truly lucky..

Yes people never dry fire ..meaning don't fire without an arrow not soaked ur bow until wet than fire...
