The educational system was created specifically to foster a working class.

We were taught that, "To be, or not to be, " was a question of consciousness. But this makes more sense .

Same reason kids/adults are not taught about tax codes, finances, and growing/hunting their own food.

There is nothing to do with an agenda, That "To be..." speech simply is a better example of Shakespeare's literary techniques, ability to write emotive characters, etc.

There's also the fact that at the age most people learn Hamlet, they've likely experienced grief and / or self-destructive thoughts. It's instantly relatable. Whereas the "What is man" speech TEACHES you how to overcome depression, "To be..." empathises with it" I was, and I believe they should be taught one after the other.

"To be..." is also the height of Hamlet's internal tension in the play and best exemplifies its themes. Hamlet never really recovers from his depression and his attempts to be active are still seemingly fated to fail due to his malaise.

Not to mention Romeo and Juliet, who literally off themselves over the thought of losing the other (reminder that they barely even KNOW each other too). It's a great example of lust being the downfall of both men and women, but it instead is taught in such a way that glorifies this self-sacrificial lust, instead of warning against it.

"Oh, that's so romantic" Don't make me barf. I LOVE my husband more than most things on this planet, and I would do anything within reason for him. But I wouldn't delete myself for him, and I wouldn't expect him to do so for me. Plus, we have two beautiful little wonders to take care of, if one of us was no longer living, I would expect the remaining one of us to continue caring for these kids, even through the terrible grief.

Romeo and Juliet both could have went on to live out their entire lives, but they literally threw it away for lust. It couldn't even have been love because again, they didn't even know anything about each other besides their names. So it was just lust, and they threw away their entire lives for that lust. And there are so many modern renditions of this story, and other stories heavily inspired by R&J or simply following a similar plot, but we have so many novels in our modern day idolizing this type of self-sacrificial lust disguised and slapped with the label of "love" or "romance." I'll tell you what real romance is: knowing that you are a horrible human being but trying to be better for the sake of your relationship. Or knowing that your spouse is a horrible human being but caring genuinely for them anyway and supporting them as they also try to be better for the sake of the relationship. That is true romance.

And I say all this as a person who LOVES fiction and I love Shakespeare and I love romantic novels and I love high fantasy novels. I love losing myself in a great story. Heck, I'm a so-far unpublished author myself. But I'm also able to distinguish fiction from reality. Enough said.

Hamlet was sick of a sick world; lacking honesty. His soul says, NOW!!!! It is my right as a son, whose father was wronged!!!

At our recent first day assembly, our principal told us (our entire 7-12th grade school) that the whole point of school is to teach us how to be good employees. How about teaching kids how to be business owners? Life skills? I'm being "trained" to slave my life away to make somebody else rich.

Thank god I had an amazing teacher. The "What is Man" speech was heavily emphasized in our class, as well as "To be or not to be". How do these plays demonstrate the (timeless) human condition? That was a fun class

We used to be. I'm 38 and remember my school curriculum. They taught us how to budget, pay taxes, spot propaganda, differentiate between facts and opinions, etc... then I watch it begin to change. Good thing is, people have knowledge at their fingertips, literally. Just have to put effort in. Take time to educate yourself while you're younger. You will thank yourself when you're older. Facts.

My Dude „to be is not to be” has a strong message. Thow life may be hard and you will most likely experience pain and suffering you will also experience joy, fulfilment and exitment. If you take your life when you feel pain you will miss out on all the joy, fulfilment and exitment that you will inevitably also encounter. We do not know hat lies beyond death. Its better to choose life full of pain, suffering, sadness because it s ale full of happines, fulfilment and exitment. Without the bad we would not be able to recognise the good. The message of this speach is very important.
Moder people want impossible things and get disapointed that life does not deliver. They want to always feel good, be Hoyfields and suffer no pain and sadness and when they do they blame it on The teachers that teach us „self doubt” instead of „greatness”.
