Perhaps You Have Been Brainwashed: The Indoctrination Of English !!

Indoctrination is defined as the process of teaching a person or group to accept a set of beliefs uncritically. For the majority of people learning English there is a certain process of indoctrination that occurs. Thinking of English as one particular, region, sound and accent even though English is a global international language.

What implications if any does being indoctrinated or being brainwashed impact you from achieving your English goals? That is something that I think about

Hi Teacher Will. I totally agree with what you said. This is something that I'm really interesting in. You know what? For many time I have been following and listening teachers that have the same opinion about accent.
When someone, teachers or not, say "Speak English like a native speaker" or "Change your accent by doing those exercises" or "Do you want to sound like a native speaker?"
I always ask myself, What accent do they mean? Which is the perfect native English accent? Knowing that there are many countries with English as their first language, this questions or
these statements make no sense.
I would like to be able to communicate in English whit everyone, doesn't matter where they were born. In my opinion English is a global language spoken in all over the world. Let's try to learn how to communicate in English.

First of all, thanks for sharing your thoughts, which coming from you have a lot of credibility. However, I reckon that people who have these kinds of complexes about their English are, in the end, insecure in their mother tongue and in their lives as well. When I say that, I refer to an issue of shyness or inmaturety. However, all these problems have treatment. Good training and, even better, a good teacher are the keys.
Anyway, don't pay much attention to me. I am only an elderly rambling while I do my writing exercise.
