My old boss took one in the house when He was young. It was in winter when He found it so He put it next to the wood stove that the family used as Their only heat and cooked with it. After it warmed up, the hornets came out! This was many many years ago. They weren’t the super hornets. Hornet nests sell for good money. Fisherman use them for bait and other people buy them in Indiana as a decoration.

Any temps below freezing will stop hornets from flying, but it doesn't kill them or "remove them from the nest". When they warm up you will be running for your life.

Once I trapped a hornet in a glass of water and put it in the freezer. I forgot about it for a few days but when I remembered I brought it outside and dethawed the ice it was in, and it was still alive
