"History doesn't repeat itself, but it often rhymes" -Mark Twain

It rhymes! History rhymes . It’s never exact repeated but it rhymes to the same tune.

I think a better wording is; History doesn't repeat itself, idiots just keep making the same mistakes.

*If you mean people constantly trying to oppress and get an advantage on each other, absolutely.*

The last bit of David’s video was the most important part. As much fun as conspiracy theories about the end of the world is, if they don’t help us make decisions for the future, they aren’t very helpful models.,

One basic rule: always nurture society with a large strong working middle class. They are the gatekeepers of the social democracy.
More Keynes economics, less Friedman economics.

David fixed his language at the end. This stuff is certainly no "theory." At best it's a "model, " and at that, surely not even a good one.
People are excellent at finding patterns in chaos, even if they don't really exist. When you've got the world of happenings to choose from, you could cherry pick events to prove anything you'd like.

David, has YouTube implemented this 2-Ad system before videos as a way to lessen the impact of ad-pocalypse 3.0? If so, have you found that it’s helping?

Love the show!

“ Fantasyland “ by Kurt Andersen. Written and published a year before Trump was elected. 300 years of conditioning the America culture, subtle nuances, the bubble of importance with out insightful awareness; what makes America tick. How history has shaped us.

A hard statement of the strauss-howe theory isn't very helpful, but there is a cyclical nature to history. What I think we can take away from strauss-howe is that the crisis comes from erosion of communitarian values, and is solved when we recognize value in those around us, and government remembers it must serve the people. On a personal level, if everyone could keep the spirit of 1776 at all times, we would not reach crisis points.

The rest of the stuff about archetypes may help evaluate history in a literary sense, but it doesn't provide any hard predictive power. I believe if you asked people to name archetypes for today on the bases laid out by the "theory", you would get very different answers from people on the right and left.

If it helps lay a framework of thought, fine, but don't take it too seriously.

I hate it when I get in a cycle like that. I try to move beyond finding a problem to solving it with available data and the other person doesn’t know and gets stuck on a loop, as if I merely didn’t understand the concept the first time. My ex did that all the time and it drove me nuts.

That being said, I don’t know how fair it was of David to keep pushing the point on a caller who merely wanted to see if he was familiar with the concept. David could have then taken the ball and discussed possible solutions instead of putting it on the caller, who obviously was blanking under pressure or hadn’t expected that reaction from David. To me, it’s not super charitable to press a caller who’s probably already nervous about calling. That cycle of being stuck sucks, but you can always break it off by answering the proffered query yourself. 🤷🏻‍♀️

not really in Canada . may be our low population. we also have really high so .. different communities existing in the same place, with massively different back stories, learning from each other. it really is a peaceful utopia.

I would say that history has repeated it self up to the industrial revolution. Up in till then things hadn’t massively changed for literally 2k+ years. To sum up history repeats itself within its eras but once a new era comes. But this is just being able to look back at 5000 years of human history and the tech boom of the last 70 or so years is truly unparallel.
