Good discussion. I take milk Thistle 250mg in a capsule that includes turmeric 27 mg, and dandelion root powder 55 mg. Webber Naturals and found it in the Philippines.

I have taken milk thistle on most days for 20 years. Despite heavy drinking all this time, I do not have fatty liver or any indications of liver damage. I think manufacturers recommend stopping the use of milk thistle from time to time, but I won't go more than a week without it unless I'm on the wagon.

My grandparents on my mother's side sold milk thistle products back in the day. They used it for everything, wounds, sickness, etc. They lived to an old age and their mental state was always perfect, right up until they passed. My grandma was 95 when she passed on.

The portal vein carries the blood from your intestines through the liver to be processed BEFORE it spreads out to the body. So nutrients, poisons, ect that you eat go through the liver first and have a chance to be broken down. If you eat a toxic diet you will harm your liver. Eat healthy foods absent of pesticides, ect and you can heal your liver. Quality food is key.

We should talk about cassia cinnamon as well. It is also toxic for the liver with high usage. It is very widely used in the US and other parts of the world and is the most common kind of “cinnamon, ” on market in the US. We should be consuming Ceylon cinnamon “true cinnamon, ” instead as it had many health benefits.

I found the milk thistle info. interesting. I was a heavy alcohol drinker for years, so I regularly had liver function tests. I wanted to see if milk thistle worked but wanted the strongest form of it, so I chose Siliphos at 900 mg daily. And without changing my bad habit my tests improved a lot! Several months ago I stopped drinking alcohol but continue to take Siliphos, so I'm looking forward to getting a blood test again to see how much my liver has improved. I'll leave an update as soon as I see the results.

I treat supplements as medicines, I take the ones I think I need, then stop when they seem to have had their effect. I don't just keep taking them forever because I took them for a week or two and felt better. If you're deficient in something, it doesn't make sense to keep taking it until you're reaching toxic levels.
Any time I feel great when I wake up I pass on the supplements for that day.
(When I do feel run down I start with water and the three key minerals. Magnesium, Potassium, Sodium.)

Milk thistle is good if your liver is inflamed through alcohol or you are experiencing pain from NAFLD. So the simple rule is, If your liver isn’t inflamed don’t take Milk Thistle, use it sparingly.

I remember my biochemistry professor telling us to be careful about ingesting too much fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) because they accumulate in the body and are not easy to get rid of, unlike water-soluble ones.

i take 500 MG Milk Thistle every other day and have been doing this for decades. I'm alive and well and my liver is in great shape now. My liver use to be fatty and sick prior to using Milk Thistle. Also, for those who ask if green tea extract is L-Theanine, NO, it is not. L-Theanine is diffrent and is great in doses ( for me) of 200-500mg.

I get all the retinol (vitamin A) I need from extra virgin (unfortified) cod liver oil and one weekly serving of beef liver. You can over consume synthetic vitamin A, but my opinion is that it's difficult to become toxic on food sourced retinol. I've been taking a double dose of retinol since this covid thing started and my recent blood work revealed zero problems with liver markers.
I do take milk thistle.

Don't take cod liver oil unless you know it's unfortified. Most brands contain more synthetic A & D than they contain of the natural stuff. Recommended brands that I am willing to take are Rosita Extra Virgin CLO or Jigsaw Alaskan CLO.

My son took vitamin A when he had severe acne, under a doctor's direction. He ate no yellow or orange vegetables and stayed out of the sun. Cleared up his acne very well, without having to resort to Accutane.

I've used Milk Thistle off and on for several years. Also recommend it to friends who tend to drink a little too much alcohol. Seems to help recover quicker from a hangover 😉

If you're liver is already sluggish or fatty, any supplement will damage you liver if taken in excess particularly taking diverse combinations at once. I learned by experience.

Thomas I am in my later years of life and although I am am a howlie I have been mixing kava for over 35 years with my Polynesian bros. Only the kava roots are intended for consumption and there are varying differences based on where it is grown. Fiji and Tonga are where some of the best kava is grown. If you want an experience go and drink it in its natural state. There is protocol that goes with mixing. In the islands when dignitaries arrive often times they will have kava ceremonies and poly royalty will mix with the dignitaries. You have talked a lot about teas and history. If you look into kava from a poly perspective you will find it is centuries old and very important part of the culture. If you are in OC look me up and I will introduce you to a new experience.
