****** About Living Traditions Homestead ******

Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.

We put out new videos every week! We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.

Instead of putting the same variety in the larger Mylar bag, you could package several varieties in the larger bag to create a set for each year. Then you could heat seal the bigger bags. For the packages to be used further out (8-10 years from now), you could add extra seeds in each small bag as a hedge against lower germination rates and label the big bags with the year so you know which ones have the extra seed — e.g., Use in 2034.
Thank you for sharing your journey. We’ve learned so much from you two.

May I suggest that you also incorporate a pill counting tray for counting the seeds. They are inexpensive from Amazon. They often come with a paddle or spatula to maneuver the seeds and shove them into the bags. This would minimize the amount of handling with moist hands.

I would love to see more on seed saving. I am still sort of new to growing in Missouri as we just moved here 2 years ago. In fact watching your videos is what helped us decide to move here from Oregon, and we love it. God bless.

Great video. I save seeds from year to year but never thought about repackaging purchased seeds for multiple future years.

I also save seeds from veggies/fruit that I buy at the Farmer's Market and the grocery store. This year, I have multi colored mini peppers growing in profusion from market seeds that I saved.

My method has been to take seeds in original packaging & place all related in a canning jar. 1.tbs DE in bottom of jar & mylar bubble wrap around bottle to prevent breakage. DE & paper keeps moisture out. Then remove all air. Can get alot of seed packs in a couple jars & I don't have to worry abt it. *MI.gardener was gifted seeds 50+ yrs old in a sealed rusted pop-top can. All germinated. So proper storage will retain viability. *Good video, Kevin. Important topic. Thx. -- 💌🍒

I save seeds in their package with several varieties that I buy, in a vacuum sealed bag. I have enough seeds that I can grow a garden that year. These are in my long term food storage so a little different than what you are sharing. The ones I had before came in real handy during Covid and I couldn’t get seeds. Thanks for your videos.

There are silver permanent markers that work really well on black material, so you could write directly on the packets you used. Thanks for all the informative videos!

If you live in the Pacific Northwest Washington, Oregon, and Idaho, consider (going online and studying their products), then driving to Quincy, Washington where Central Bean (warehouse) is. They have bulk over the counter sales of 35+ bean varieties (no online purchase and shipping sales). Buy in volume for food, or also buy for seed stock, and you can have a vast bean seed bank for you Pacific Northwesterners.
