Brutally Honest Town Visit - Skagaströnd in Northwest Iceland

What has the village Skagaströnd in North-West Iceland to offer although it's not by the official ring road and do such places have a fair change to compete? It's only one of the many questions i try to ask as we do a deep dive into the towns soul with a brutally honest mindset as usual. I have recently started on my town series again so i can promise you several new episodes soon.

When I was young and fit...I had no money...now I'm old and not so fit and I still have no money...lol. But if I DID have money, I would love to see Iceland in person! Maybe you should set up a small consortium of investors to work w/a small hotelier and make that dream of infusing life in the old fishing plants a reality. You could offer packages that include hiking to the basalt formations, go on day voyages (whether to fish or whale watch), or historic tours...there have to be more stories of Hordis or Vikings or invaders...or whoever! This video certainly highlights the beauty of Skagaströnd and like you...I'd like to see your young people have a sustainable industry in their own communities for future generations! Thank you once again for sharing your part of the world w/me...very much appreciated!!! (PS...I think I forgot to congratulate you on the Ranger Rover!!!).

Great stuff, Gylfi. From a considerate outsider’s perspective, Skagaströnd really has potential! Its location is quite romantic and scenic, and admittedly I do harbor - pun intended - ample endearing affection for seaside towns. The interesting mural at 15:40, strikingly handsome Social Centre building at 17:25, characterful basalt columns, charming harbor area whose arrangement and advantages can be properly harnessed, the cool town name (though I confess that I think every Icelandic town has a cool name)… I am on board - boat pun intended, again - with your hotel idea, whether in that building or another that may be more sensible to transform from a stinky fish plant? To further develop that vision, I always believe a great model for such a hotel is featuring a quality restaurant on the ground level - that produces a sensible built-in symbiotic relationship that such a mixed-use model engenders. Excellent work as usual with this presentation!

As a keen bird photographer myself, I would say that hut is to get out of the wind while waiting for birds to show up. Hopefully they have some window cleaning items in the hut so you can clean the windows before you enter and enjoy the view while you wait.

Wonderful presentation - similar to you I enjoy birding, and yes "the birding hut" is a disaster, someone would only have needed to dial up birding on the web and a plethora of designs come up (none with windows!) so someone being a little idle I am sorry to say.
