"My goal is to try and run these printers as often as possible."

If you’re using roller style spool holders like that, you can squeak out an extra kg on that style of spools. I work at a filament company and we usually put 6kg on that style of spool. The next spool size up (8-9kg) is a bit larger though, and takes a pretty strong printer to use that. Cool to see that you’re using this much PETG, that’s not a common material, and in raw material it’s often quite a bit cheaper than PLA

I love PETG. It's a great material. I got sick of PLA prints breaking, and now I can't go back.

Thinking about your health; any fume extraction, VOC and particulates management, active monitoring and an alarm system?

I don't have a print farm but PETG is my favorite material to use. For me, it prints pretty much the same way as PLA+ and doesn't need an enclosure like ABS/ASA, but is more durable than PLA+. The icing on the cake is that it's the same price as a good quality PLA+. The only time I use PLA or PLA+ is when I want a color that is not available in PETG.

My question is: what do print farms print? Who buys the prints and for what use?

I am using the cheapest local produced petg filament and its the best filament i have ever used. Layers adhesion is better then anything and it breaks randomly to layers like its injection produced part. But more expensive petg from big companies did not behave like that..

I thought petg was the way to go but now I mostly use PLA matte for inside stuff because it looks so good, and ASA for outside stuff. Petg was ok for outside stuff, IF it didn't support anything. I made a stand for a LCD screen with petg on the dash of my truck. Lasted 2 days and basically drooped. Other prints with petg that was not under any stress or supporting anything outside does fine.

InfinityFlow with 5KG spool holders so you change spools half as often and never have to stop printing except for printer maintenance. I use PETG almost exclusively as well. Only use PLA for aesthetics.

I've noticed recently that PETG filament has suddenly become slightly less expensive than PLA. It's becoming a commodity. I'd love to buy 5 kg spools of black PETG.

The only downside of PETG is the humidity absorption. Humidity levels must be under 20% or the print quality degrades and a lot of stringing.

I use a little torch on pla+ after sanding it can be surprisingly heat resistant at 100% infill

i printer a microphone mount for my car radio (the ball on the mic clicks into it). the print is now 3 years old and still perfect.

PETG is amazing.

Same. The only way PLA failed me as a material choice so far, is deforming in the sun. (into 3D printing for 6 years now).

I am also using PETG rather PLA in most of my prints. I only purchased PLA a few times and when I learned how to print PETG, I never went back to PLA. It's cheaper and mostly available. PLA has shortage from time to time.

For products that will be used outside I just use ASA. PETG cant handle UV sunlight on a long term

If it's 35°C outside, parts exposed to the sun will melt like butter—that's why we use ASA.

How do you keep the humidity down those rolls?
