Marie Kondo is the reason everyone you know is suddenly cleaning up. She wrote a book and has a Netflix show called “Tidying Up.” If you haven’t seen it - basically, she makes people get rid of stuff. We’ve been doing our show for 16 years and Jimmy has accumulated a lot of stuff in his office at work. So someone thought it would be a good idea to ask Marie Kondo to help tidy up his office and this is how that went.

Can we show some love to the translator? That work isn’t easy

Am I the only one tired of talkshow hosts making fun of Marie Kondo's method? I understand that their job is to entertain, but they are also being a bit insensitive to the cultural meaning behind her methods.

Jimmy's missing the point completely. He can only see the sillyness of thanking socks and waking up books. Ofc you're not doing it for the inanimate objects, Jimmy. You're doing it to wake up something in yourself. Finding appreciation in the surrounding you otherwise take for granted. And by doing so, clearly seeing what items brings you joy and which ones that mean nothing to you, and only take up space.

Idk man, I keep seeing Americans calling her in supposedly to "organize" their space but instead they keep telling lame jokes that don't translate well and sort of making fun of Marie Kondo and her professionalism. ( Refinery 21, Ellen, Jimmy Kimmel...) this Japanese lady puts her heart into doing this job. I feel bad for her tbh she came with the intention and heart to help but people just mock her.

I love how the interpreter also talk with Marie's enthusiasm :)

Her methods aren’t that wild, and they derive from Shinto beliefs and tradition so some respect would be nice.

Normally I watch a lot of Ellen and Jimmy Kimmel and I don’t really watch Stephen Colbert, but I watched his interview with Marie and it was phenomenal. He was extremely respectful and exuded a genuine curiosity for her organization methods and techniques. I suggest giving his videos a shot if you want to get more of this wonderful woman!

Its annoying that everyone just makes light about her while she is right there and the only thing they think she does is get rid of things. Creating harmony and calm in your living environment is no laughing matter.

people like him don’t deserve pure angels like her

Stephen Colbert is very respectful and kind to Marie, if you want to check out his interview. At one point the audience laughs when they're both kneeling to greet and thank his desk space, and Stephen makes sure to take the brunt of it off of her. He makes a dreamy face, looks up at the ceiling, and says "Thank you Ed Sullivan", but then follows Marie's lead and respectfully bows. And the audience applauds. He didn't play into the laughs, try to make a cheesy joke about the method, anything. It's a culture clash, but Stephen managed to navigate around it without leaving Marie embarrassed.

Oh my gosh. I'm from Japan, I love all my sweet American friends but it hurts to watch someone treating a Japanese lady like this. How American people act is already so different coming from Japan. You have to get used to talking loudly, you have to learn to speak very straight forward, you have to learn to verbally say "no" if you don't like something. We have this saying called "Read the air" meaning that we need to be sensing what others are feeling without having to make them say it. And Japanese are generally very respectful to the point where when Japanese people encounter something that they find disrespectful, they still smile, they still deal with it and hope that the other person will sense it, realize it and stop doing it. Ok, it might sound silly to some of you guys but I really did struggle with this when I first move to the US 2 years ago. I couldn't handle people's sarcasm (We rarely ever say sarcastic stuff), I didn't know what to do when people are making fun of me, I didn't know how to handle pushy people but to smile and be patient. I just hope that she is surrounded by many sweet people, leaving her country and coming to the US for work for a long term couldn't be an easy thing especially she is not fully comfortable with speaking English yet.

Jimmy sounds like he just drunk a bottle of Jack Daniels and woke up 5 minutes before Kondo came into the room...

Ellen did this, now Kimmel. But none of that matter. Still waiting for Kondo to come to Conan O'Brien's show and clean Jordan Schlansky's office.

The year is 2035. Marie Kondo holds up the condemned man to the crowd. “Does this man sparks joy?” The crowd jeers, “No he does not!” She nods silently and throws him into the pit.

Bye Kimmel
That year comes earlier than expected...it’s only 2019...

I have to say it saddens me so much that Marie is so happy and outgoing and thankful and practices these amazing exercises and Americans laugh and think of it as weird. Something is truly wrong with this country.

Love Kimmel, but I feel he disrespect Konmari's way quite a little bit. He seems like a typical american who lacks soul. May be it's just a joke and he didn't mean any harm but it didn't come out quite well.
