The fastest and easiest way to make tapered legs without expensive jigs. A great woodworking tip and trick. I own a tapering jig and it's great at what it does but because I don't use it enough I never remember how it works.

Hey David, I have done the exact same thing when I was making 2 pairs of nightstands, since I had 16 total to do when I taped the 1st leg in place I added a couple cleats to the jig and made it a repeatable contraption :)

I used a small sheet of half inch birch ply and made a jig. It wasn’t expensive but the tapered legs looked sensational.

These tip videos are great David! Short and sweet! Love the sound fx, I imagine a pile of broken glass off camera :)

It is also very easy to make a quick hinged jig that can further be made adjustable to accommodate various angles (similar to how a woodworking compass works). Your version is of course lot easier as it doesn't even require making anything, but the time spent measuring, drawing lines, lining up and taping down the work piece makes it less user friendly too.

So good. Also intentional Steve Ramsey micro jig joke?

Ok, the “shorts” are great and all - and I enjoy them however, can you come back around and make an actual video with a project for some of these? This tapering technique in specific would be really helpful to me to see in slower and better detail as I just got asked to build a table with tapered legs and I don’t want to buy a jig if possible. Thank you. Matt.

Although I am far from adept with hand planes, I still find it pretty easy to mark and plane legs to a taper precisely and quickly. Your method would certainly be faster for making legs for several tables, but for just one table, the difference in time would probably be insubstantial.

Is this part of an upcoming full build video?

Wouldn't it be safer to add a strip to the bottom of the jig in order to utilize the guide rail and not use the fence?

For such a simple jig I'm curious why anyone would spend money on a factory made jig. INCLUDING YOU DAVID.

I have neither saws. So, that's going to be a tricky thing to pull off. But thanks for the tip!
