2:33 This, my loves, is what we call a 'freudian slip', in which a character comedically and accidentally reveals more of their thoughts than they would have liked. Normally, this leads to the character in question resorting to what TV Tropes calls 'verbal backspace' to resolve their revealing slip-up, although the audience very easily catches on. These types of scenes drip with dramatic irony, and this scene is no different. ("Summer adventures?" Yeah right.)

A freudian slip may be used to comically communicate a character trying to cover up a mistake, hidden romantic feelings for another character, or simply getting distracted for comedic effect (take that as you will 😉)

Lol I don’t even know why Snufkin tries to cover up the fact that he is always thinking about Moomintroll when 90% of scenes he’s in includes him saying something along the lines of “I miss Moomintroll.” Or “I want to go see Moomintroll.”

Honestly I’m new to this and came across this stuff yesterday and I swear it’s so wholesome so howdy folks-

Ironically, Snufkin and Moomin is actually the heterosexual ship in Tove Canon. Tove based Moomintroll off of herself, and Snufkin off of Atos Wirtanen, her one time fiance and lifelong friend. They broke their engagement because he did not want to settle down in romantically, choosing instead wanderlust. In Tove's own words, “I know that he cannot love like we think of loving. He likes me, the same way he likes the sun, land, laughter, wind. More, but in the same way." (Ace rep?) Luckily, Tove found in Tuulikki Pietilä someone who, though they too loved their independence, also loved Tove as ardently as Tove loved her Too-Ticky. Though they spent time apart, they always returned to each other on their little island. In a letter to Tuulikki, Tove wrote, “You see, I love you as if bewitched, yet at the same time with profound calm, and I’m not afraid of anything life has in store for us.”

I really love this part 2:21 - any other character would possibly be mad at moomin for failing the rescue or be upset. Instead, here they both are somewhat happy and hopefull to be standing close, ignoring the fact that they just got stuck and possibly now doomed. NO, instead they are happy, nervouse, embarrased. Sweet, overall. I like this writing.
