All you need to do is speak up and be firm. As simple as, "I didnt ask you to be in the photo". Tell him to ask Buzz for his cut if thats how it has to be. Some ppl are so weak

Ok I was told by the cops that giving $ to these people is optional and I am from NY. So if they ask you for $ you don't have it give it to them and if they bother you then tell the cops around that area

When the people in costumes come to take a picture, after the picture tell them it "that will be 3 dollars", they will look surprised, thinking that you should pay them and not the other way around. tell them "it costs 3 dollars to take a picture with me, because im famous in my country". they will be so confused hahaha

I remember I took a photo of a landscape and four women in costume came running to me asking for money, claiming I took a photo of them. Haha

The funny part is that the characters are in public. And can be photographed without their permission and without having to pay for it.

as a new yorker, I recommend tourist stay away from those people as far as possible. They are even worse at night. Once a friend from cali came to visit and she wanted to take a picture with Micky. I tried to hint to her that it is probably going to be a bad idea, and ofc with once Micky comes a Mini. After the picture was taken, the 2 scammers tried to ask for $20 each and even attempted to grab my friends wallet. Disgusting

When I went to Time Square, I wanted to take a picture alone. I asked my buddy tot take a picture of me, and all of a sudden one character showed up and stood next to me. I thought that's alright. Then another one came and stood on the other side, until I found myself surrounded by 5 characters. (I thought this would be a fire picture)
we took the picture, then they asked me for money. I said, I didn't call any of you. Then my buddy and I ran away with a free picture.

Not a scam. You don't need to give them anything.

It was even worse for me, I was 12 and didn’t even ask for or want a picture. One of the characters literally pulled me by my arm to get a picture that a different character took, then demanded $20. My dad just gave them the money too smh.

If you don't pay, they're not gonna pursue it. They make that 2 to 3 dollars every 30 seconds, so arguing and/or following you for $ that you're not gonna give them anyway, will cause them to miss out on 5 other photos they'd be taking in the meantime.

I would just say “ I though this was free” then show them me deleting the picture then just recover it later XD

This Minnie Mouse came behind me and scared me but I didn’t know so I accidentally hit her in the stomach and she was like “it’s ok I’m fine, but can you take a picture with me in exchange for you hitting me?” I said yes since I didn’t know and this mouse decides to call in Batgirl, Elmo, sponge bob, and a minion and all of them charged $10 per person but I didn’t know any better and that meant I had to pay $50 since it was 10 per person so I dropped a $10 bill on the floor and they all strayed fighting for it 🤣

They did this to me too. But I didn’t give them a single damn penny.
