V. 2019.8.5

With a short section of lane lines I'm able to engage autopilot and travel down a road without lane markings. Tesla's autopilot system that is currently only designed for highways, according to Tesla, does an excellent job with no lane markings!!

The cool thing about you taking over when it tried to center itself is that, the data from that moment was uploaded to Tesla to make the system even better. God I love this tech.

This is actually necessary because the car needs to be able to travel on country roads that doesn't even have tarmac if the robot taxi service to work properly. It's cool that the Tesla is focusing so much on a vision based system. You cannot do something like that using lidar or mere pre mapped geo fenced locations. The system gotta adapt to real world variables and must be able to do predictions.

Unlike Waymo, Tesla's strategy for achieving FSD is working, and it's going to shock the world in the very near term.

Autopilot 3 is going to blow everyone's mind.

Thank you for disclosing the software version in the video description. Tesla updates their neural net at such a rapid pace that it necessitates differentiating between versions.

This is incredible. Thanks for posting. I've noticed in the past driving in rural areas the amount of data my Model 3 uploads to Tesla is significantly more. Bought more Tesla stock.

As a Model 3 owner, it isn't hard to imagine how close we are to FSD. This is why I keep pumping money into the stock as it goes lower. FSD is potentially a $1 trillion product for Tesla.

I have version 2019.8.6 but I am not able to make it do this. Do you need to have some lane lines to start with?

Question: if you didn't disengage (and there wasn't oncoming traffic), would the autopilot go back to the right side of the road? Or does it learn that you might be driving on a one way? Thanks.

Great but you saw how it can be absolutely dangerous on the last seconds of video as the car recognized the turn lane and used 2 lanes as one and making you vunerable to head on collision!

Just for out of an abundance of concern I want to mention Autopilot doesn't come standard with any vehicle you have to purchase it. The HARDWARE to run the autopilot comes with every car but if you haven't purchased the FSD (software) this WILL NOT work. I know this may be obvious but don't want people to think that suddenly their Tesla can do this.

What's noteworthy is how AP hopped to the left as soon as it saw a lane marking appeared on the left, when that was not a correct lane marking, putting both drivers at risk. Here the network needs to learn how to identify correct lane markings.

AP would have likely been fast enough to take evasive action to avoid collision, but still failed to correctly identify the lane marking. It should have stayed to the right a little longer.

The same happens on the highway, when two lanes merge, AP will try to move to the center of two lane markings, when it should stay with the correct lane marking a little longer until after the two lanes merge into one.

No matter how much I like this video and what the car is doing, you should absolutely not be doing that. The car isnt meant to be driving on a side road with no markings. Don't encourage other people to try going outside the bounds of what Tesla is rated to be able to do until Tesla updates the system and gives the green light. I think we could wait bc more capabilities are coming soon :) and this could screw over Tesla if people are too risky.

Tesla has a monopoly on cars. we just have the wrong idea of what a car is. trying to downsize my apartment right now to buy one. I want to help train our robot slaves so i can profit off their labor. 'murica!
