Star Wars Outlaws is not looking to re-invent the wheel. It's simple, straight-foward, Ubisoft-esque gameplay loops in a Star Wars wrapper. For some (myself included) that's likely going to be enough, but others looking for more innovation and playability may find Star Wars Outlaws lacking.

My issue with this review is that we need to bear in mind that this game costs between $70-$130 depending on what tier you’re buying. The “rough edges” are supposed to be addressed by that massive cost.

If the gameplay of the game you’re playing is subpar in a AAA game then what is the actual point of the game. Shouldn’t we expect more from AAA games? Why do we give so much leeway to these billion dollar companies when they make subpar products while they destroy their employees?

If it's Star Wars, Ralph has no problem with the Ubi formula. If it's Assassin's Creed, he smashes it to the ground in every conceivable way.

Personally I’m just not really that interested “fine” or “good enough” games anymore. There’s just so many great and amazing games out there that I have yet to play, that I don’t really want to then instead go for something mediocre anymore just because it’s the newest thing.
By mediocre I rather mean unexciting than controversial or not for everyone. Asura’s Wrath had middling reviews and that game is absolutely amazing imo.
Edit: This goes even more so for IP games like Star Wars, I love that franchise but I’m just so tired of being milked for money in exchange for nostalgia bait.

The speeder gameplay is fascinating. Ubisoft games have always had a rigid, "everything is bolted to the ground" feel, and I've never been able to properly describe it. It's just lack of physics/environmental interaction. Crashing into that rock at 9:43 is exactly what I mean. Zero lifelike reaction. You hit the rock, the speeder stops on a dime (impossibly so), and you go flying a pre-determined amount in a canned animation. Been this way since Watch_Dogs 1 and is exactly why I stopped playing that game. That was a decade ago, by the way lmao
