J Dilla's Magic Trick - Recreating Erykah's 'Didn't Cha Know'

Dilla said "Pick a record to sample, any record" and the result was Erykah Badu's "Didn't Cha Know" from 2000's Mama's Gun. Let's recreate this song and talk about the story behind it.

(Also, at the end I said "The Common song Open Your Eyes" but obviously you know what I meant. Dilla sampled "Open Your Eyes" FOR the Common song "The Light")

What the hell?? This is so professional I imagined it as like a vox video or something over 100k subs! Your content is underrated af you deserve to blow up

I love catching these channels under 2k subs and watching them get to a 250k+ subs in a year or 2. It makes me feel like I can make a go of it too. my man's got charisma on camera, he's talented and knowledgable, the content slaps, the production schedule is super high, the production itself is super high. The video is informative, engaging, and entertaining. Homeboy goin' places.

You are probably the only YouTuber that first understands and appreciates this genre and era of music. And puts time and effort to give them their credit

I think I’m the only person on earth who has listened to Erykah badu didn’t ya know over a million times ..it’s been on repeat in my room for over 12 yrs now ..I never know that it was a sample I could have sworn all of its composure was natural and organic but I still love it especially after I found it’s origin

That kick drum beginning for Erykah Badu's "On & On" was actually a reproduction of the beat used in Audio II's track "Top Billin." The track (and, subsequently, that beat) was also used by Mary J. Blige in her track "Real Love." I just want to give credit where it's due for the source of that beat with regard to modern Hip Hop and Neo Soul.

As a musician and a producer myself (went to university of Michigan music school) I MORE than fkn appreciate this channel and the history and the stories. WE LIVE FOR THESE STORIES MAN. God dammit this channel needs to have a million subs…..where have I been.
Keep it up with these stories historical accounts for things that have happened regarding our favorite artists. This is a awesome.
