You should make a root cellar so you can keep veg like beets, onions and other roots plus hard fruit like apples and anything else that would save down there. It would help to vary your diet.

I love how the biggest complaint/observation is about the lack of sweets. That'll be the hardest part for me too.

I know you guys have bees. One method of preservation that not many people take advantage of is covering perishable items like apples in beeswax to keep out oxygen. You can literally store a fresh apple for over a year after being picked if it is in a semi cool place and covered in beeswax. Investigate more into it.

You can dry the leaves of corn for later use...tamales, etc. And they can be used fresh for wrapping corn dough. The hair of the corn fresh or dried is amazing in tea

I used to freeze strawberries puree, and grape puree until cider/ apple juice time, then made strawberry, grape apple, and pear apple juices. The grape's were concord's gone wild on an old homestead. I felt like a queen drinking these juices. And, of course, some occasiona home brew beer. By the third batch, my sweetie had it down to an art l

You can preserve potato's with a laundry basket, newspaper. Pack in layers and place in a dark, cool place. See how it goes! We tried it in South Africa in the winter and it worked really well. Also shredded paper can work instead of newspaper.😊

Slice the squash in half - take the seeds out - put some butter and brown sugar on each half- cook in microwave or oven. Tastes so good! Hearty with a bit of sweet buttery taste.

If you have enough space for it, you could do a greenhouse as well for some fresh things like herbs and lettuce type veggies

My fiancé and I have the amazing privilege to live on a lot of land. We made a decision last year that we wanted to try and work towards sustainability from only our garden and the community garden in town (if needed. We have plenty of land to grow whatever we want, so we want to leave the community garden for the families in town who need the fresh veggies more and don’t have the option or time to grow their own) we did an “experiment” this year with only a few plants, and they’ve taken off, and we had to rehome some groundhogs to the nearby state park (no killing, but the park is much better suited for them). We decided that this was doable and we are already planning a huge garden for next year for nearby family and friends to use as well. With some help from my uncle who is a very seasoned gardener ☺️ Honestly, it was your videos and Chanel that helped inspire us to use the land we are on.

We have some filipino dish here called ukoy. It's sort of like a fritter. And we also have pumpkin with coconut milk here we call Ginataang kalabasa. Hope you guys try it. Enjoy! 🤗
