Just had mine CDV mod install. It is a night and day difference no jerky shifts from 1st - 2nd. This is a must mod. At first I wasn’t sure but I just got it done today and bled the clutch. This is a must mod for this car. Please take my advice and get it done as soon as possible. I love my car

Always remember that dang CDV was designed to "Reduce wear from novice drivers" it actually wears MORE for experienced drivers. Then when diagnosing this problem inspect Guibo "flex joint" Carrier bearing, and rear subframe bushings and mounts. As all of the aforementioned can cause Jerking, clunks, delays, and loss of torque. The e46 has a plethora of items that fail causing driveline issues diagnosis is better than throwing money. (Gosh Someone please remind me of that when I start dumping money into my e46 again....)

You're shifting too quickly. Wait until the rpm's drops to the rpm that matches the following gear. eg, if first gear 3000rpm is 20km/h, and 20km/h is 2200rpm in 2nd gear, put the clutch in, shift in 2nd gear, and release when it hits 2200rpm (approx, the closer the less jerky). The reason it jerks is because the engine and the wheels are trying to match speed, hence when you shift at the incorrect rpm for the following gear, it slows down the engine or wheel speed (depending on if you shift to quickly or too slowly), resulting in the jerk forwards/backwards.

This is just the clutch not being smoothly matched. Reason why it jerks on lower gears is because you have significantly more torque on 1st to 2nd, than 2nd to 3rd and up

My 3 series had same warning lights it was the abs pump that needed changing also had this jerking in first and second gear there was a cyclical clicking noise in the engine bmw said it sounded like it was coming from the gearbox area and could be a dodgy flywheel that will need replacing along with the clutch. Changing and acceleration in first and second gear felt like the car was being held back then let go there wasn't smooth acceleration is this like the problem your having???

Dear experts, Help! My f11 520d auto is slipping at 2nd gear causing a high revving then a jerk into the next gear. I assume it’s a clutch or pressure plate but IS IT REPAIRABLE?
❤️👊🏼 ps yes 186k miles now just had engine refurbished and timing chains but thought gearbox was a lifetime part!

@Shane. Yeah that comment was a big help. What would YouTube do without your wisdom?

What’s that strange slot at the top of your media device?

Unrelated to CDV but your dash lights are telling you your DSC is off. This is usually a faulty brake oil pressure sensor (there are 2), but of course you'll need to read the fault codes off the computer first. CDV delete is my next job. The CDV decision was the ultimate driving machine fail.

Did you experience a dull whining noise from the car around the time this was happening?
