I think pain hits me whenever I "wake" instead of 'wait', which rhymes better with 'mistake' and trust me as an older man like Todd, who is also 'closer to the ending'...

I think the song is about "Blue Mind", the increasing belief that proximity to large bodies of water like seas and oceans promotes wellbeing and mental health.
Aging can often be like accumulating varieties of trauma wounds. Ever notice every old person who can afford it is on a cruise ship?
