Will Teleportation Ever Be Possible?

Forget electric cars, teleportation is the real transportation of the future! OK, that might be a stretch, but scientists actually have had some luck making this sci-fi fantasy a reality... sort of. Trace looks at the current state of teleportation research.

Beam Me Up, Scotty? That Might Take Some Time
"Alas, apart from a tiny handful of experiments on entangled photons, teleportation is, in a practical sense, pure science fiction."

How Teleportation Will Work
"Ever since the wheel was invented more than 5,000 years ago, people have been inventing new ways to travel faster from one point to another."

Teleportation and Wormholes: The Science of 'Jumper'
"When scientists talk about teleportation, they don't typically mean teleporting matter from one place to another as in the new movie. Rather, teleportation involves capturing the essential information about something - its "quantum state" - to recreate it exactly someplace else."

Why Don't We Have Teleportation?
"Theoretical physicist and unstoppable optimist Michio Kaku thinks humanity will achieve a version of teleportation in the real world."

Quantum teleportation done between distant large objects
"The macroscopic quantum spin state of caesium atoms held in a vessel has been teleported to a second vessel 50 cm away - according physicists in Denmark, Spain and the UK, who have performed the feat."

Will we just teleport from place to place in the future?
"Believe it or not, scientists have managed to 'teleport' some things already. But as for 'beaming up', Star Trek-style, either there's no hope at all... or we're a very long way off."

To infinity and beyond: teleporting humans into space
"To begin the teleportation process, every human that is teleported will need to be represented in transferable data."

To be honest I think teleportation should be used as a high speed postal system
No more waiting a month for your eBay order from china

That moment when you're in the middle of a teleport, and your wi-fi goes down...

I know this is old but as soon as we can transport non living objects... the shipping industry itself may fall apart.

Wait... Can they disassemble a human body... Then store it for a million years and then assemble it back? Time travel?

I'd never do it. Probably wind up with my face on my behind, like when Patrick pissed off King Neptune.

Yeah... I wouldn't teleport. That "Dying in the middle" part and being reconstructed is... You don't live again. You die, your consciousness dies, then a perfect copy of you saunters away somewhere else. (Am I the only one who thought Doctor Who when they thought of that?)

So if teleportation means killing someone and then reconstructing him in another place, then this also means that its possible to resurrect humans/animals that have died? If their information has been saved of course.

I'd be afraid that I'd die, and the transported version of me is just a copy. But the copy wouldn't know he is just a copy, because he'd have my memories, and everyone would just think I'm not dead.

You die every moment of your life, and a new you takes over. How's that different from destroying the you that exists right now, and having a new you that's exactly the same being made far away at the exact same time.

Quantum communication to distant bodies in the solar system will be a good use for it.

Hang on, if we did die would we remember what it's like to be dead or would we forgot everything from after we were teleported?

would teleportation be easier if wormholes were used instead of deconstructing and then reconstructing the individual or the item?

everyone knows you need a good buffer system

Now I know we still are very far away from teleportation technology but I also want to know why do we need this deconstructing and reconstructing process. Isn't there any process where we can remove the gap between the destination like "Ground bridge" from Transformers Prime or "Anywhere door" from Doraemon.

but what about teleporting a germ. How long before we can do that?

I think teleportation is the future, would be so awesome, I hope it will happen in my lifetime.

It also means they could read you, store the information in digital format, NOT destroy and reconstruct you right away, wait for you to die of natural cause and then reconstruct you as a young person from the digital information they had captured. Did I just describe incarnation?

The hyperloop is a much better investment.

Bread is the key source of teleportation.
