The Science Behind The Gut-Brain Connection

Emerging research reveals a gut-brain connection. When it comes to the gut, most physicians and scientists miss what is right in front of us, because we are looking for solutions in the wrong place.⁣

When you fix your body, you fix your broken brain. Your energy, memory, focus, and joy will all increase. ⁣

While this may not be the case for everybody, changing your diet to feel better is a step in the right direction towards focusing on your mental health and creating optimal health in general. ⁣

In a recent episode of The Doctor’s Farmacy, I dive into the gut-brain connection and the Function Medicine 5R program to fixing your gut health.

I actually have DGBI or brain gut disorder that took 5 years to diagnose after an ecoli infection caused by septic shock. When it flares it prevents me from eating and drinking. Doctors dismissed me for years until I finally got a doctor that knew what it was and how to treat.

So now you know why you have to listen to your gut ! It notices things before your brain does

Absolutely love you. You’ve saved me big time in my life with teaching me everything so that I could avoid having lupus and went Paleo and it’s just changed everything I started a list of all the things that got better and it’s amazing. It’s so long it’s been almost 2 years 85 pounds later, keep it up!! more people need to hear you

😂😂😂 FYI..500 Million is not 5x more than 100 billion… might want to fix that.

You can survive without your gut (with appropriate machines supporting your body), but you can’t survive without your brain. Those cells in the gut have an important role and can influence your mood and actions, but it’s just that: an influence. The brain takes all the decisions, taking into account what the gut tells it of course.

What a great explanation. That’s so simple that we look right over it, our mood affects our gut (diarrhea) and like u said gut feelings send that info to our brain.

Thanks for the short info clip. I have had multiple GI issues from childhood and for years went to many doctors and had many tests done. One that stands out the most is HIDA scan, at the point during the lengthy test, when the CCK is given, I began to have deep sharp pain, the same pain I would get while eating. This pain was sodeep and strong, I was unable to remain still. When I asked the GI about why this would be, he had no answers and became angry with me for asking. So began my research, where I found very little understanding of CCK both neurological and digestion. Perhaps Mar research should be done
Is the ozembic using this process to decrease appetite?

Yo. Yall
I went on a restricted diet in 1990 n developed a serious sleep disorder still have it
Anytime i try restrict carbs it happens
No one has been able t figure it out
Tells me. Doing anything extreme will harm us delicate but fiercely strong humans 😊🎉

I like your information on the gut brain and the connection with the nervous system. But it doesn't tell me anything about what to do about neuropathy. And I thought this is what it was going to be about.

Bad Math! Million and Billion are 3 orders of magnitude different (10 to the 3rd power = 1, 000 to 1). If the gut was 5 times more than the head, IT would be the seat of conscious intelligence.

5 out of 1000 is 1 out of 200 size difference.

After the math is corrected, all else he says is essentially correct. Digestive system function is so complex, that it needs a "control system" right down there. This function is independant of the head's brain. That's why people paralyzed by neck injury are still able to survive. (While the heart beats on its own accord without Any brain signals. But the lungs need an exterior air pump.)

Consider actor Christopher Reeves. Who lived many years after breaking his neck.

Hmm... so this must be why the term "listen to your gut" came about.... 🤔

Isn't this nervous system a branch off the vagus nerve though which is not any different to the system that runs to the lungs or heart only major fifference is the infomation passed back from these organs to the brain as each plays a different function in the body
