if Amarok can fly I would still go for Hilux ...something about the legendary reliability you can't get with other brands but toyota

I drove Amarok 1 year ago at dealer's center. It was Rancho version - I liked it very much and still I regret I didn't buy it when I was able to do that.
Maybe Hilux also good, but even specs says Amarok is a bit better.

Comparing this to a Hilux may work for a video review. However, put on a few hundred thousand miles and you will find out the VW is guaranteed to cost you more money in upkeep and maybe even leave you stranded because of some stupid german electrical issue....

Volkswagens in general are under-rated in terms of their truly awesome durability and reliability. The Amarok is very popular here in Jamaica.

Do a camparison in 10 years time, not when its brand new. If the Amarok is as reliable as the Hilux after 10 years, then it is worthy of the same status...

One will be as reliable as the sun, and hold it's value like nothing else. The other has a slightly nicer than average

It's funny but in 1989 VW and Toyota did do a venture and re-badged the Hilux as VW Taro...

You kept mentioning that it's hard to compare with your highly modified Hilux. One solution: Get a stock Hilux and compare them two.

I live in Central America, and here the Hilux is the number one selling truck, and it's proven it self well, and the Amarok wasn't well received, people were skeptical including myself. t finally got a chance to do some off roading in it, I was impressed, just wasn't on par with the hilux. I appreciated the car like feel and comfort, today the Amarok is mostly used as business trucks for the government. The Hilux is still known as the " workhorse" around here.

The Amarok May Be Better Bulit But If I Was Stuck In The Artic Or A Desert. The Hilux Is The One That I Would Like To Be In After A Few Hundred Thousand Miles The Hilux Would Still Be Working Perfectly. Whereas The VW will Have Some Expensive Technical Issue.

I got to admit, they passed the point of which..can you get as much parts as the Hilux and for the same price worldwide?, the pricing of which it would cost to fix / repair as the Hilux?, is the electronics and general reliability as strong in all points as the Lux?

I am shocked that they haven't brought this to the US yet. Americans are obsessed with pickup trucks. Perhaps they're worried about market saturation.

A lifted hilux with 4x4 tyres, big roof rack with tyres will obviously do less mpg. My 61 3.0 hilux averages 32mpg.

You should review the Ford Ranger. It is also a nice piece of engineering.

I've got a 2014 3.0L Turbo Diesel Hilux. No modifications and I've found the fuel efficiency to be better than our old 2003 2.8L Diesel Hilux which we had for 10 years. So when the host says he's guzzling fuel compared to his companions V10 or whatever, I wonder whether it's because of the modifications the Hilux in the video had (thereby increasing the weight and more drag) or because he's probably changing gears a lot more than is required? Any which way it's all down to the individual taste but I'm happy with the Hilux, you can keep your Amarok.
