Power Mac G3 With Tiger

My Beige Power Mac G3 is now running Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11! With the help of Xpostfacto 4, I was able to install the OS even though there's no Firewire or USB ports present. The G3 runs flawlessly and software updates had no issues.

With the sonnet G4 Processor it works. I have still a G3 upgraded with a 300 GHz processor but no way to bring it to Tiger. I built in a firewire and USB card in it. It's amazing how far you can update this machines.

No offense but it really blew my mind that something that old can run something so new. Shockingly Amazing. Try installing leopard!

@DanMan91693 Sonnet Encore G4 ZIF Upgrade. Works with Beige and B&W G3's. Beige G3 will run at 733MHz with 66MHz Bus. B&W G3 will run at 1 GHz on 100MHz Bus.

@jMagGraphics I would if I had a B&W. The Mac in the background is a Graphite Sawtooth G4. It has Leopard on it.

@valiant1968 Logic board is stock except for the Voltage Regulator being changed to support CPU upgrades. The CPU is a Sonnet Encore ZIF G4 upgrade. It can work in both the Beige and B&W G3. To get the G4 in the machine is relatively simple. Replace the old G3 with the upgrade G4, connect the extra power cable to the G4 to the Main power to the logic board via splice power cable, install the software, done. I may do another video of the internal components operating.

@theimacmodders1 You mean Leopard? I'll need a bigger Hard disk than the one that's in it now. Maybe in the future I'll give it a go.

See, by the video description, one would THINK you were actually running Tiger through a G3 processor - which is rare. Running it on a G4 processor is pretty normal. Did you have to change the motherboard at all? I have a stock beige G3 desktop - with a PCI USB card, 512MB RAM, 3 hard drives, and the graphics card and 350MHz processor (overclocked to 400MHz) out of a B&W G3 tower. Please tell me how you got a 733MHz G4 in there!

@kollardavidkolibry Before we begin, congrats on your first Apple product! As for availability on the ZIF CPU upgrade, Sonnet no longer carries them anymore, BUT there are some on eBay. Start looking there. Let me send you some more info in a PM ok.

Wow even at the slower clock this power mac has more L1 Cache than my athlon 2400+

huh...I've never seen the beige G3 in the "desktop" form factor..I thought it only came in the tower and all in one form factors...

Never underestimate what a Mac can do. I think I'll need a bigger hard drive for Leopard.

I have one of these but it won't even go to jaguar it's tech specs are identical to this except the hdd is only 8gb

I don't know if you check comments on this video anymore, but what adapter did you use for your LCD? I haven't been able to get mine to work with my LCD..

@maskdguy Nope! I have no USB Card installed. Wish i did though. It's hard to find a USB card that works with just the Beige G3's.
