Yes, pick up a $400 lens with the $100 you saved!

People say this but it's hard to buy a lens with the cost of camera bodies. I did some research and found people who have used the kit lens and saw some amazing examples as a new photographer won't have the skill to use a sigma to it's max potential.

Using a kit lens gives you time to save money and learn your camera before investing in the first of many perfect lenses for yourself.

Not sure that I agree. Why not buy a kit to start out with in order to find out if you enjoy photography enough to warrant spending more money and time on it?

I would definitely suggest getting the kit lens in most cases. They're great for learning on, good to have as a back up lens and most of the time, they're heavily discounted when bundled with the camera.

In my country $469 feels like paying $2000 on a freaking lens

Kit lenses are great for beginners! Yes, the professional glass is higher quality but it’s heavier, costs significantly more, and has features that only an experienced photographer will know how to utilize. I’m happy I was taught to grow out of my gear not into it. When you study art there’s obvious value in earning better tools rather than just having them from the start.

If you’re buying your very first camera, you can buy it with a kit lens, there’s nothing wrong with that. There are pretty nice price/performance kit lenses.

I mean, I guess so... though things can start getting pretty pricey going this route. I started with a janky 18-55 kit lens on my old 300d back in the day and it proved invaluable in allowing me to learn the camera on the cheap. 🤷‍♂️

My current setup is a Nikon D3200 (leave Nikon alone😂) with a 55-200 kit lens and personally, even for a second hand pickup, it hss treated me so well! I know I will have to get better lenses eventually, but the kit lens has been fundamental to my learning, not to mention, hella cheap in my currency

But the problem
Both lenses and the camera body you mentioned don't have OSS either.

It makes no sense that a camera company would sell you a kit lens that would make their camera seem crappy.

No if it’s your first camera you should absolutely get it with a kit lens. Learn that lens inside and out, understand all its limitations. Then use the experience with a subpar lens to inform your decision on purchasing a higher quality lens that fits the kind of photography you most passionately want to pursue.

It is generally true but is always better to check tests of the specific lenses - some kit lenses are quite good (e.g. Fuji xf18-55 which I’m using since 2019). Also often bundle cost less than body and lens separately so you can buy bundle and sell the lens (but if the lens is optically bad it can be hard to find a buyer)

Kit lenses can be a good deal in a bundle for the price. Sometimes buying kit and selling the lens might even be worth it over buying body only, or using it for a while until you can afford better lenses.

Got mine last camera with a kit lens since it was 200€ cheaper than without it. (Plus I could sell it for about another 50-60€)

I bought the zve10 with the kit lens. Bc i didnt know much about cameras or lenses so it was a great learning experience. Lenses are rediculously expensive and they never get cheaper. I actually plan on getting the sigma 18-50mm, to be my main lens.

Buying kit lens bundle still save you some money since it usually cheaper than buying the lens separately. For example a camera body cost $600 and lens kit is $200 by itself, but buying it as a bundle usually only cost $100 more than body only

I disagree a kit lens may not be the best but for beginners who don’t want to invest too much into potentially a new hobby it’s a start to learn the basic of photography. If they enjoy them they can buy another lens. If not sell the camera. It makes it simpler when purchasing as a newbie. 📸

In defense of the kit lens, they’re awesome pieces of kit because they’re tolerable for most situations, Makes you think a little about composition as they’re limited in focal length, most importantly if you fumble a few bumps or scratches on a kit lens you’re not going to cry. As a beginner it might actually take a while to feel the constrains of using a single kit lens all the time and will lead to much more thoughtful upgrades
