And this is why I listen to dermatologists not hair stylists…

Yep it 100% gave me cystic acne. A week or so after I stopped my skin magically cleared!

As a research scientist in the field of biology, I hate to be the one to give my anecdotal evidence, but here goes. I was advised to take biotin when I was on topamax to prevent hair loss (common side effect) as the med interfered with that pathway. I didn't even know anything about people taking this for hair growth. After a month being on the med and biotin together, I noticed significant improvement in hair QUALITY. It was the thickest/healthiest it ever was and my normally brittle nails were finally nice and thick. It's possible I am amongst the few that does indeed have a biotin deficiency, but I'm thinking it may be more than that. Just because there is no research to prove it works, doesnt mean that it doesn't. You have to prove the null hypothesis by actually proving it doesn't work. Also, the levels I was taking were much higher than in these supplements and likely what was studied (I need to pull up and read those papers), so it's possible at a much higher dosage the effect is visible.

I've been taking biotin supplements for a year now and my hair has grown a little over 7 inches. Before biotin, it would barely grow 5 inches in a year. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I didn't have my glasses on and thought the title said "Bitcoin for Hair, Skin and Nails". 😫🤣

That’s strange, because I am on a limited diet due to having serious bowel issues, and I do take biotin with every meal, and I can honestly say that my hair is thicker than it has ever been, plus there is more of it. Now I do admit that I also take other vitamins and minerals, like calcium and magnesium and zinc, but I have my blood-work done every three months and have never had any issues. I believe that everyone should speak to their own doctor and have a one-on-one recommendation, no matter what you’re going to take.

What about supplements that contain all the vitamins including biotin.

That’s interesting. Biotin helped my moms hair grow back. When she stopped it started falling back out so she started again and her hair regrew.

This video literally saved my skin. I have been breaking out for months and I could never find out why it was happening. I was trying literally everything. I had also been taking a capsule of biotin every day for months !!! Literally threw it away. Thank you Dr.Dray.🥺

Most supplements don't do a thing for me with the exception of biotin. My nails were always peeling & brittle until biotin and it's helped my hair too. I think it depends on the person.

I’ve been taking it for about 6 mths for brittle nails and my nails have never been so strong, especially the one I jammed in a door years ago and always split when it grew to a certain point. I no longer get acrylics as my natural nails are so strong.

Would like to know if the acne thing applies to topical biotin in skincare products too... Thanks for everything, Dr. Dray! 💕

It definitely depends on the person.. it's different for everybody no matter the case. #1 problem is she picked up the gummies... of course the gummies aren't going to fix your hair, skin, and nails.. if they do then that's amazing! But in my opinion the gummies for any type of supplement is a sales gimmick. They make the bottles pretty, the words "Hair" "Skin" and "Nails" are bigger than the word Biotin in itself, getting people to see those three words first believing it's helpful for all three... they also make them taste good [now what medicine that's not made into a gummy, ever tastes good? If it tastes good, it has more sugar than it does actual medicine. And if it has more sugar, than maybe that's the cause of some people getting acne; because they're not taking an actual vitamin, they're taking a sugar gummy] ..you need the Biotin bottle that's not all pretty, that's not gummy candy, but the little pills you have to swallow. That is actual biotin.

She also says a biotin deficiency is rare, which is true. BUT- that doesn't mean that you're not a little low in it. It takes a lot to be deficient in something before it becomes a bigger problem, but you don't have to be fully deficient in something for it to throw things a little off with your body, and maybe that little bit of biotin is just what you need. And if you don't know, if you take some biotin and your body clings to the amount it needs, any extra you'll just pee it out.. so you can never overdose on it.

Which leads me to the last thing that made me laugh... no, taking biotin does NOT change any blood work! Hahaha! I don't know if that's just to scare people or not but that's just wrong to say when it's not true. Now if you were to take a biotin pill right before blood work, yeah, that could cause something to be off because your body didn't have time to pee out the rest it didn't need, so it's gonna show you have a lot in your system, but who's taking it right before blood work? 😂 So long as you take it and give your body enough time to pee out any extra it didn't need, then it won't mess up your blood work. I'm extremely picky on what medications and supplements/vitamins I take. I hate taking stuff but since I have to I make sure it's safe to mix with things. I have to have my blood checked once every 3 weeks.... in which I have lots of stuff going on with health, one being a thyroid disease as you mentioned.. I've taken biotin along with lots of other vitamins and medications for over 5 years now and never has it messed up my blood work. I even had a long list of stuff I had to take, and wanted to take, but before I did, on the next doctor visit asked about every single one to make sure it wouldn't mess any blood work up or be unsafe for me to take. One of my sister in laws works in a hospital and she even laughed at this video saying it's just for views because this lady didn't do her research 🤣 So again, no. Biotin cannot mess up any blood work, and neither can vitamin D, or B12, or iron, or so many others.

As a side note to the lady who uploaded this: I don't mean any of this in a rude way.. I just want to say what's actually true about biotin because it's not fair to those who watch this and end up believing it. I don't care if you're a dermatologist or a doctor or whatever, you definitely didn't do your research on it and are just stating lies to scare people or make them take things that you promote instead.

If anyone has read this and you're not sure about biotin or any other vitamin, check it yourself! It's best if you do your own research because you can't trust people's videos. Who knows what's real and fake. The best thing you can do is deeply search it yourself.

Thank you for this. I always breakout from biotin, and wanted to try certain hair products containing it but was reluctant because the the breakouts are so bad from it. Now I know it does nothing!
