What A Waste: The Truth About Plastics Pollution

There’s way too much plastic in the world’s oceans—which has led for calls to ban plastic on land. But that misses an important detail: the problem isn’t plastic waste itself—it’s how it’s disposed of...

Over 80% of the plastic waste in the world’s oceans comes from Asia. In fact, nearly half of it comes from just two countries: the Philippines and India.

Americans use a lot of plastic, but less than 1% of it is “mismanaged.” China, on the other hand, mismanages nearly 75% of its plastic waste.

Keeping plastics out of the ocean is an important goal—which is why we should focus our efforts on the approaches that will actually make a difference: like cleaning up our local beaches.

Good presentation. I expected you to cover the lies and misinformation about the oceanic garbage patch gyres. Lies include images showing visible plastic waste when in fact if there is actually waste, it is microscopic and invisible to humans. All the sensational images are coastal.

How come nobody's talking about the fact that each year the amount of oil being dumped illegally by every barge and every big ocean liner is it equivalent of the biggest oil spill in History X 100 and that's each year do you realize what that's doing to the oceans no wonder why everything's dying forget about the plastic

Wow. This video was made 8 months ago. Meanwhile my old province in Philippines banned use of plastic way back in 2010s. And when Duterte became the President 2016, plastic use was banned in Philippines and they have a very strict rules and fines if you mis managed your trash. Get all your information correctly before u post it. And just admit that US use plastic more than other countries. I live here in US so I know.
