I'm confused how did the scratches disappear? Those looked like deep gouged scratches. The only way to remove those is through sanding and all of that. Is that what you did first before putting what looked like tea or coffee to temporarily discolor it for that awesome finish?

I find this hilarious. As one person mentioned, it neutralizes it. I'll go one further to explicitely point out that the result of the reaction is salt + water. If you want the acid to eat into the plastic, just use an acid.

However, it's the UV light that's breaking down the polycarbonate and causing it to turn yellow. Removing the top layer with an abrasive is your best bet.

when you mix backing soda with an acid it just nutralizes it.
you want to clean the headlights with lemon juice or vineger and just rub it in at first and then polish with the backing soda.

you are just better off using a polish or wet sand them.

Mothers Mag & aluminum polish and a brush drill attachment work great. However, I clean my headlights first….yours clearly weren’t.

Very nice Nate I had been using WD-40 and Maguire UV headlight block but this looks cleaner and I can see how that grime melted straight off. If there are headlights really hazed up maybe this lemon juice baking soda compound is better than the WD-40. I will try this thanks so much.
