Build Strength for Handstand Push Ups using the Wall

Wall Progressions for the HSPU. Even if you are working towards a freestanding Handstand Push Up using the wall to allow you to achieve more reps more consistently, which will help with the Strength Development.

In the Video I cover: Deficit, Eccentrics, Partial Range and Full Range. For the deficit I use IKEA Steps but you could use P Bars, Wooden Boxes etc

Let me know in the comments if you have any questions or would like to suggest any future videos.

As usual, the best content out there. The great thing about Paul is he understands why we are stuck and what we need to hear repeatedly. I love the fact that he hammers in to us the key aspects of what's needed in all his videos

Great break down. I am doing partial range and can hit maybe 5. Also I do the rings which feel easier. Sometimes I grab a P-bar with the rings to get more range of motion. My take away is more time under tension to help me progress. Also, I like that slight balance on the eccentric at the end. That is a great addition I will try.

Seeing how deep you go down, I wonder if it allows you to perform an " inverse muscle up" on rings?

I can hold a handstand for 5-10 seconds and i can do 3 repetitions of wall hspu but i always lose balance really fast when i break at the shoulders to start the movement from a freestanding handstand. Is this a strength issue or technique/balance? P.S. Love your videos, by far the best breakdowns of hand balance skills i have seen.

My bent-arm workout: 10 to 20 full range of motion freestanding HSPU singles, with the last 3 to 5 followed by a slow eccentric and floor reps. After that: pull-ups, dips and rows, then some experimentation and rehab. Is this enough, or should I add wall HSPUs?
