Sometimes the problem with a pair of scissors is they need sharpening. Don't know if all Joann stores offer this service, but mine has a gentleman come every two months to sharpen scissors, knives, guillotine paper cutter blades, etc. Many of us can be unaware of how often we really use these tools, and the dulling creeps up on us slowly but surely. After sharpening, the improvement in both the tool and our skill is nothing short of miraculous.

Cutter Bee have been working for me for years. I don't even consider any others for fussy cuts.

I'm with you on the cutterbees. I have several pairs so I always have a pair nearby. I also like the Tim Holtz Tonic scizzors because of the bigger handle.

TFS. I didn’t realize the blade thickness would be an issue, but that makes total sense.
I don’t care for fussy cutting, but I like Fisker‘s spring-loaded scissors, which don’t have loops for the fingers.

I had to get rid of my Cutter Bee scissors because of arthritis in my hand. Replaced them with Westcott 6inch Titanium Precision Tip scissors with the huge handles. 6 inches is the overall scissor length, the blades are 2 inches, maybe less.

Just got cutter-bees at Pop Shelf for $3 I love them for fussy cutting. Great video.

Hey, Jess, really useful, video! I never worked out that it was the THICKNESS of the blade which influenced wether the scissors were any good at fussy cutting 😂, so thank you for that! I agree with you on the Cutterbees, they are amazing! With the Tim Holzt scissors, I found that they only serrate ONE side of the paper and this changes, depending on which blade is up when you cut. So if you hold the the right way up, you can make sure that your image has the smooth cut and the waste you cut off is serrated. Try it and tell me I‘m crazy LOL but I sure that‘s what they do… Kind regards from Germany, Nicola

I love scissors! I have a ribbon tied on one for fabric, basic utility ones and ones for specific paper crafting.

Cutter Bee is my favorite! I have two pair. One has a small piece of ribbon tied around a handle as it's for ribbon only. In my opinion, there's nothing worse than trying to cut ribbon with scissors that have been used to cut paper! Obviously the other paper is specifically for paper!!! I've tried other scissors but nothing beats Cutter Bee (my opinion)!

For the sticky part a trick I use is using Zippo lighter fluid or turpentine (refill into a Zippo can) to wipe off tape adhesive.

Then wiping the blade with a tiny bit of Vaseline petroleum jelly and really give it a waxy feel which does makes tape stick less (for regular scissors without non stick coating)

Wiping scissors blades with sewing machine oil (all purpose oil) does help in smoothing out the action as sometimes paper can give a powdery texture to the scissors blade after prolonged cutting.

Then recently I sort of looking at scissors sharpening tutorial on YouTube, a small steel file for honing edge on scissors as cutting paper can really slowly eat away the sharpness on a pair of scissors.

It is frustrating for a favorite pair of scissors to get blunt and those are like a dollar a pair but the scissors sharpening service usually means you could easily buy a dozen of cheap scissors with the money.

Here is the link to the guide/tutorial

Great information. I am a horrible fussy cutter, may be the scissors I'm using. Thanks for the tips.

I love my Cutter Bees and I love fussy cutting. I sometimes even fussy cut stamps that I just had die cut. I got a lot of scissors and probably 3 bees. I have strict sewing scissors and paper scissors. I even have 1 pair that I use on both cause I love adding material to my cards. Scissors are great.

I have many pairs of scissors but I have gone to Fiskars for the majority they are expensive but durable and very well made but I actually prefer my little yellow cutterbees over all of them for fussy cutting but they are very hard to get and quite pricey here in nz
But I’m quite used to fussy cutting now so I can use most scissors if needs be
Thanks for the video

I hate fussy cutting. I buy the dies or use my Scan N Cut. Thank you so much for this information.

I use those big 9” Tim Holtz ones for fussy cutting. Grabbed them one time because I couldn’t find my Cutter Bee ones, and was surprised at how well they worked.

Hi, Jess. Once I saw those EK Success Cutter Bee Precision Scissors and how well they work, I immediately fell in love with said scissors, and I even bought myself a pair from Amazon. And yes, it does work really well! 😍I enjoy cutting paper dolls, as well as fussy cutting (with the fussy cutting being for collage-making purposes (for inspiration boards or vision boards)), and now that I have these Cutter Bee precision scissors, I always use them for my paper doll cutting and for my fussy cutting and always have ever since. Thank you for this really useful video! ❤😊

I thought I had a lot of scissors! Glad I am not alone in this department! Have you ever tried the scissors Simon Hurley recommends? Fiskars spring action. I have been attempted. But like you, I like the cutter bees the best. I also keep a generic brand on my craft desk just for cutting sticky tape. Always appreciate your videos.

Great info! I bought the Tim holtz serated and do not like to fussy cut with them. Felt like I hit a wall with fussy cutting. I will try the cutterbee ones. Thanks again!

Thank you for your review on the scissors you own and have tried. I also prefer the Cutter Bee and haven't had reason to buy another brand. You do a great job at fussy cutting, perhaps I just need more practice.

I don't know if I just got a bad pair of cutter bee scissors, but mine do not cut on the tip and never have done. I was very disappointed with them. In the UK these scissors are quite expensive. X
