thank you Hainbach. i just came out of some minor surgery and 40 minutes of a Q&A is exactly the distraction i needed.

Honestly, "Olson" by Boards of Canada might be one of my fave piece of music ever. I really mean that. It's 1:28 (if memory serves). But in that time in manages to collapses the world around me and take me on a journey to the very core my being. I do genuinely get shivers & well up a bit when listen to it, and I can't explain why. Genuinely profound sense of being at one with the world in that moment.

Plus a fan video with visuals from Cowboy Bebop (I'm sure you know the one. It's still there, I believe, and I still have comment thete on it from that time) which introduced me to the series and the Anime rabbit hole overall. Thanks BoC for that one.

I've really missed these Patreon Q&A videos, Hainbach's train of thought is beautiful and I love to hear where it goes. Regarding the first question about using digital media/gear and the answer mentioning the Ciat-Lonbarde Cocoquantus; I was never a fan of the sound of the Cocoquantus when I've heard it here on YouTube, but then I was lucky enough to be in Berlin this February at the same time as a Hainbach gig so I got to hear the Cocoquantus in person through a PA (in a quite nice acoustic space), and it sounded really, really amazing, I fell in love with the tonal qualities of the Ciat-Lonbarde Cocoquantus that night - it's a very, very cool sounding piece of gear, so YAY for digital.

For Vintage tape machines. I yse old 70's mk 2 Uher reports. Cheap, very solid mechanism, small 5" spools, 4 speed. They are built to be repaired, the bbc used them for reporters. They only have 1 head but they do have 4 speeds. I bought both of mine for less than £70 each. They also take up much less room than a lot of other models. These aren't consumer items, so the build quality is exceptional. I believe they used ghe same mechanism on most if the versions of this they made from the late 60's, up until the early 90's, when they made the stereo twin head version. It's the electronics that were updated.

Good suggestions for the Quadraverb. I have a bunch of old rack gear (much of which I purchased new in the 90s) including effects, synths, and EQs which are often overlooked today but offer excellent sound-shaping possibilities for very little money. I also have a collection of $10-$50 effects pedals, which are pretty excellent for electro-acoustic and ambient music making.

Fabelhaft, vielen Dank! Thank you so much for such a thoughtful response and so many great suggestions! With the stuff I've made in Caustic, I'll take the track stems onto something else like a sampler and see how I can mould them. Viel Glück und Erfolg wünsch ich dir.

Be careful which budget gear you reccommend- You may find that it is all out of stock very soon haha ;)

Thanks for the rundown on Assertion, very interesting patch!

120 V doesn't necessarily hurt you if the current is small. Van de Graaff generators put out thousands of volts but very small currents so you just get a little zap.

Yeah Stefan LaForce right on! Awesome Hainbach, looking forward to that video! The Adapting Eddie's Amp Trick video around 6:00 even reminded me a bit of No.8 by No.8 (isn't that a wonderful artist name?) by a musician called Torsten Pröfrock but without any effects/ processing. So I'd love to see if it's possible to create as discogs calls it: "Experimental, Minimal, Ambient" (I think) Dub Techno stuff as well if you have any interest/ time for that :)

What's the name of the Gronemeyer song you did the beat for? Would love to check it out!

Re: the first question about digital lo-fi. A great old Hainbach video is the cut up technique using a portable mini-disc recorder. Check it out!

It occurs to me gear selection for tracks is somewhat determined by what is working & what is broken at any given time

Is there any chance you could show us some example of a tone where aliasing is beautiful? Do you find it only in hardware, or can you achieve it in daw also?

just had to look up and research that grönemeyer track... interesting combo. the part identifiable to me as hainbach would've worked as a lovely, slightly gooey idm x electronica piece on its own i guess. personally, as you might've guessed anyway, i could've done without the 80s rock snare (and the vocals ofc) but its super interesting to see how your musical approach integrates surprisingly well into a realm that is light years away from our nerdy bubble. any interview x video snippets at hand in which grönemeyer talks about your stuff in particular? would love to see those - and some of his fan reacting to this kind of information as well, ofc.
