Have you heard that having an alkaline pH is healthier? FInd out about the importance of pH in this video.

0:00 Introduction: Is having an alkaline pH healthier?
0:30 Stomach acid
0:42 Understanding pH in the body
1:22 Blood pH
1:42 What is the normal pH level?
2:00 Alkaline foods
2:43 What is the risk of alkaline pH in acidic areas of the body?

In this video, we’re going to talk about the many different pH levels in the body. Your body has many different fluids, each with a different pH. This means that your entire body is not one pH, so your body shouldn’t be alkaline or acidic.

The stomach is very acidic and should not have an alkaline pH level. The large intestine and urine are also acidic. Different pH levels activate different enzymes in the body.

The acidic pH of stomach acid activates pepsin, a very powerful enzyme that breaks down proteins. The large intestine is acidic to help prevent the overgrowth of unfriendly microbes. Lactic acid is also produced for this reason. If the acidic areas of the body become alkaline, there are several consequences.

A pH level below 7 is acidic and above 7 is considered alkaline. It’s healthy for your blood to have an alkaline pH between 7.35 and 7.45.

To maintain healthy blood ph levels and normal pH levels throughout the body, you don’t need to focus on eating alkaline foods. You just need to eat healthy! Although vegetables have an alkaline pH, you still need things like essential fatty acids and amino acids for a healthy, balanced diet.

Focusing on alkalizing the body with alkaline water or baking soda will actually dilute acidic areas of the body like the stomach. This will inhibit important enzymes for digestion and reduce protection against pathogens and unfriendly microbes.

That’s why it’s so important to consume vegetables provide a healthy nutritional balance. On a healthy Keto and IF no dairy because I’m allergic I lost all my weight. I’m down from 172-110. I train HIIT and resistance training. Not low calorie but watch carbs and little to no sugar. Sagging skin not an issue and I’m 51+. Keep at it and much success to all😊

Thank you for clearing this up for me. As I have read so much on this subject and all of them conflicting and not very clear. What you say makes total sense to me and I am a lot clearer on the whole PH issue with regards the body.

Your Blood PH is too acidic? Consume more MINERALS! Yes, your body uses minerals to stabilize blood ph.
If it gets too acidic AND you don't get enough minerals from your diet, it WILL take the necessary minerals from your hair, nails and bones.
That's why some people might experience *hair loss* on keto. They consume too *much* dairy, eggs, cheese and meat, but too *little* greens (potassium). As Dr. Berg said, keep a healthy balance and you will do just fine on keto ; )

I did a urine test with a natural dr. Over 20 years ago. I have been trying to be more alkaline all this time. how I needed to hear this.

I found that too much oil/fats in a meal overloaded my stomach/bile duct, and left me feeling a bit nauseous. So I'm following your suggestion of having apple cider vinegar first, and having small portion sizes, spaced out.

I really enjoy your illustrations!! 😀 They enhance an already excellent short lecture. This clip helped me understand how alkanility and acidity do not affect the body's various systems in an identical manner. Good information! Thank you, Dr. Berg.

sodium bicarbonate is what saves me. i lost 25kg on keto but after the first year of keto, the weight loss stopped and 14kg of the weight came back. after so much deep research about the mitochondria i finally found the solution and it is the pH level and buffering capacity inside the mitochondria.
in a paper from the 60s on mitochondria they recorded a graph that shows the activity of the enzyme acetyl CoA degydrogenase depending on the pH level.
1. taurine helps buffering the pH, so it does npt go down that fast at higher work intensities
2. sodium bicarbonite helps getting the pH up.
how much sodium bicarbonite? that depends on the actual blood pH which is difficult to measure.
but one can measure the pH in the urine and this is where we should have a good reference. today i had 7.38 in the urine and i consider that too alkaline. maybe 6.5 is a good reference for weight loss. 6.0 is an average value.
i can not suggest a goal pH value for the urine, this is something that everyone has to find out by him/herself.
for me, i will take a break from taking bicarbonate now as long as my urine is over 7.0
investing in a precise electronic pH level measurement device is a good idea, the pH strips would probably work too but less precise. i love my pH meter and my keto mojo and my elite HRV app together with my polar h10 breast strap for heart rate and HRV measurement. measuring is key!

Q. What part of the body should be alkaline? A. The interstitial fluid also known as the extracellular fluid. And of course, the blood, terminal ileum, aqueous humour etc that we already agree on. Alkaline ph of urine is not a problem and ural sachets are used to increase the pH, with sodium bicarbonate which reduces the sense of urgency.

this definitely surprisingedly me BIG TIME

that makes so much sense. I had once a guy coming up to me and tell me that he's supposedely so healthy because his urine is on a ph of 9. Never really convinced me with that :D

Recently I've been reading how low pH caused by lactic acid buildup in the brain is related to many mental health disorders, including anxiety, panic attacks, Alzheimers, schizophrenia etc. And by simply raising the pH of the brain to make it more alkaline can reverse the disorder.

In healthy people astrocyte cells in the brain release bicarbonate to counteract the lactic acid buildup and regulate pH, but in many people this system is dysfunctional, which results in high acid/low pH and causes anxiety, panic attacks and a host of other mental disorders

A Vitamin B1 deficiency is also reported to raise lactic acid/lower pH and causes anxiety disorders

Great explanation :-) I was one of those who thought that everything alkaline was good... It took some thinking to realize the facts as you set them out... Thanks :-)
