I do love the current steps the NBA is taking to encourage new viewers such as the NBA Cup, do you guys like the current direction the league is taking?

NBA League Pass in Canada means you can’t watch any Raptors games period, which is funny considering most Canadians like the Raptors

1980 - 2010 was the golden age of the NBA.
From then on, it went south.
I loved the game and the league once, but I haven't watched a game in years. It just doesn't interest me anymore.

I personally think the nba might be suffering because MasonMoves made a youtube channel

Ok, I stopped this video at 6:23, because I think you're not getting why the NBA is not doing well. Maybe you addressed some of my points later, but I'll just tell you what I think the reasons are:

* It's impossible to play defense. And yes, if players are so much better today, why has hand checking been removed? Why is flopping rewarded? And forget the gather step. Guys are taking 5 steps. Taking "step back - step back 3s". Shuffling their feet repeatedly. Guys are taking a 3, then PURPOSELY landing on the defender to get a foul call, sometimes landing a full 8 feet in front of where they took off from (I'm looking at you, James Harden). As I mentioned, when all else fails, just flop, flop and flop some more. I've been watching the NBA seriously since 1980. Sorry, I'm not impressed when someone scores 30 in today's game.

* too many 3s. Even my young friends who are huge NBA fans are saying this is an issue. NICK WRIGHT, who has nothing bad to say about today's NBA, is admitting it's turning viewers off. I don't know what the solution is, but because of all the 3s, there's no longer any variety. In the past, each player played based on their strengths. Imagine seeing Shaq shoot 10 3s a game. It would be nuts, right? But that's where we are!

* EVERYONE IS ALWAYS INJURED!!! You'd be nuts to spend $1, 000 to take your family to watch a game today, when guys like Embiid are telling you straight up he's not going to play back to backs and will load manage. The next time Kyrie Irving plays a full season will be his first. If the players don't care about playing, why should the fans care about watching?

* EVERYONE MAKES THE PLAYOFFS! It cheapens the regular season when just about every team makes the playoffs anyway. But we all know the NBA is a cash cow and they'll never reduce the amount of teams. If it were me, the three division winners and 2 wild cards in each conference should make it, with the conference winner getting a first round bye. That's it!

* Getting back to the everyone's always injured argument, guaranteed contracts need to go away. You play, you get a game check. Or we can do something like if you play at least 65 games, you get all of your game check. I actually have details on how this would work.

These are the main problems.

I think everything stems from the players being so empowered now with all the money they make and the entitlement they have. They whine all the time, demand trades, sit out games, load manage, play for stats instead of winning, not respecting the fans, only want to play offense so they aren't on a highlight, etc. Before it felt like professionals going to work, but now it seems like kids just having fun. Just look at the allstar game...

The actual game and rules are a totally different matter that I also believe creates a worse product then before, but those are secondary in my opinion.

DUDE the watch ability thing OMFG I'm glad someone said it. The NFL is just ON TV most of the time. And the nba just IS NOT. Not only that but this season the quality of NBA League pass streams has been ATROCIOUS. They have this monopolistic non-competes with local sports providers and it just KILLS the fan connection. The fans of a team in thier OWN STATE are locked out of watching the games. That's INSANE

Travel, carry, moving picks, flopping trying to get a play reviewed, when they do review it take 15 minutes, complaining to the refs on every call or non call, 3 after 3 after 3, NO rebounding, (as soon as the shot goes up everyone turns and runs back on D), hard to find where the games are. ESPN? Leagues pass? Amazon? TNT? NBA Channel? Weekends it could be any of them along with NBC, ABC or CBS. There are no likable players. They all have attitudes that are not enjoyable to watch. No personalities like Barkley, Jordan, Rodman. The bad boys of Detroit, no real rivalries. And for God sakes can we get rid of LeFlop already? Been waiting 20 years for him and his dumb ass to go away

These players today are not more skilled. The same rules are not applied. Letting guys travel and "gather step" requires ZERO skill and is disrespectful to the game and the fans. Most of these players today would get smoked in the 90s!! God forbid they had to play by the actual rules and not Adam Silvers interpretation of them!!

It’s simple:
1. Bring hand checking back
2. Take away 3 second defensive violation
3. Stop calling ticky tack fouls
4. Stop these sensitive refs from giving out technical fouls for the silliest things
5. Take away the gather step and start enforcing travels/carries
6. Let the players talk shit to each other. It makes the games more competitive and exciting.
7. Punish players for not showing up to work just like any other job. If i don’t show up to work i get fired but Joel Embiid gets paid millions a year and has to call out of work and receives absolutely no punishment. You think hard working people want to be fans of that?
8. Take away the freedom of movement rule which prevents defense from preventing offensive players without the ball to move around freely, back in the day you could put a body on players like reggie miller from running around freely, now it’s a foul. In other words, more soft bullshi.

If they could do all that the fans would LOVE the NBA again. I don’t mind the 3 point shooting, but if you allow the defense to ACTUALLY play defense then they can prevent a lot of these wide open 3’s and dunks which would force the players to take more mid range shots. Problem solved. How Adam Silver can’t figure out these 8 simple steps truly boggles my mind, maybe he’s too focused on NBAi and virtual reality nba lmao, so silly.

Dude, this video is spot on! The NBA is definitely feeling the heat right now. Parity is killing the excitement, and the refs are a total mess. I'm not sure what the league can do to fix it, but I hope they figure it out soon!

I quit watching the nba completely over 14 years ago because LeBrain, WHO IS NOT A GREAT PLAYER, single-handedly ruined the game. THERE US NO DEFENSE AND THE GAMES ARE BORING AND UNWATCHABLE TO ME. In 1972 as a college student I could watch a game for $3; now the same seat would be $500! Crazy and not worth it. How pathetic the game has become can be seen by the All-Star Games. Now they are a joke, a total WASTE OF TIME!

They need to fix league pass, reduce the influence of sports betting companies and stop doing ad reads in the middle of the game that takes up 3/4 of the screen. Its obnoxious. Aside from that i actually think this has been one of the more entertaining seasons for me so far. I like all the focus on ball movement and efficient defense this year. Easy to chalk it up to becoming a purely offensive play style but if u actually watch the teams that throw up a lot of 3’s like the Celtics Cavs and Thunder they are actually some of the most physical and defensively competitive early season games ive seen in a long time. This year actually makes me feel like the league is getting less soft. I know a lot of ppl are gonna disagree with me here but i think a lot of you are also just rooting for the more boring and less effective teams so it is an easy excuse for you not to watch. Thats not a league problem tho it is a franchise problem. The same teams people say are ruining the league are the only ones who actually look like they are trying out there. I have a hard time watching a lot of these teams play too but its not the teams throwing up a lot of 3’s that are boring to watch its the teams with no ball movement and lazy defense that are boring to watch.

It started dying way back in 2010 when somebody decided to “take his talents to South Beach” It’s been officially dead ever since someone else took his talents to Bay Area in 2016…

Implement a 5 second violation instead of 3 seconds and a 3 second offensive violation outside the 3 point line

Its been years since we want defence back and no avail. Best solution is let it rot. Let illegal streaming sites kill the league pass. Games should be free to watch because they already benefits on the ad revenue and the sponsors. Imagine paying for league pass only to see company logos everywhere.
