HUNGARY TRAVEL VLOG | American experience with a local
This weekend I am traveling to Hungary to experience life like a local and making a vlog. My room mate is Hungarian and I feel so lucky to have her showing me around her beloved country. I want to share in my experiences, adventures, and everything I learn along the way. In this video we visit Lake Balaton and try Hungarian food and cakes. We also visit a traditional village and learn a bit how lavender was brought to Hungary.

I am just so amazed at travel in Europe and how I can get a round trip flight for under $100 and be in a completely different country and culture. I am determined to not take any of this experience for granted.

What’s the next Euro country I should do a weekend trip to?

It's always nice to have a local tell you where to go since they can point out things that aren't just the main tourist sites. But when a friend does it they can show you things they know you'll like.

Hungary is defiantly a must see on a European Tour, so much to enjoy. Ash, all the best!

I'm jealous of people who live in Europe and are a quick flight or train ride away from all these other countries. Being Australian we're used to extremely long travel days and it's amazing to think some people can visit another country for the weekend! If I lived there I'd travel all the time; I don't understand many (UK) people who just stay there all the time and maybe only visit Spain or Greece LOL. There's so much on their doorstep. They have it so good and don't realise!

There was a girl...
A girl whose smile lit up the streets of Budapest in a whole new light. The cobblestone squares, the bustling cafés, the shimmering reflections on the Danube – all seemed as if they had been waiting just for her to come alive. She was the jewel of this city, the sparkle even the sunlight envied.
As she walked along the riverside, it felt like flowers bloomed with every step, the air grew softer, and people’s faces brightened with a smile. She wasn’t just beautiful – she was beauty itself. In quiet moments, she was the melody; among the lights, she was the spark. A girl not only seen, but felt – in hearts, in glances, in the very rhythm of the city.
Budapest breathed differently when she was there. And those who saw her, even once, could never look at the city the same way again. 😉

Seeing a new place and trying new things with friends; how fun!!
Fun fact, my German teacher was from Hungary. She loved telling us stories from her time there, including her experiences with WWII. We called her Frau, and she was my favorite.

Thank you Ashley for another interesting video. I was not surprised that Hungarian people have built those kind of roofs on their houses but more surprised I am that here in Finland they building flat roofs on the houses and we got a lot of snow here during the winter.

The roofs of the houses are partly like this because of tradition, partly because of expediency. It used to snow a lot more, but this kind of roof also drains the rain better than a flat roof.
We stick to our traditions.
Besides Lake Balaton, there is another lake, but it is a damming lake of a power plant.
There is not only swimming across the lake, but also a sailing race. It's called Kékszalag (Blue Ribbon ). The sailboat that goes around the lake the fastest gets it.
In Hungary, medicinal waters are used not only for bathing, but also for internal healing/treatment. For example, Salvus is used for heartburn, but also for inhalation (e.g. to dissolve deposits in the facial cavity).
The use of local materials is characteristic of Hungarian folk architecture (but I think all of them). Where there was a lot of reed, it was used, and where there was a lot of grain stalks, it was used. The difference in architectural styles in the landscapes is typical. It is like this on the northern shore of Lake Balaton. In this area, they have been paying attention to the preservation of this style for a long time.

Reed is the traditional thatch used in England and the eyebrow windows are also common. A house with a duvet as are toasty in winter but cool in summer.

Sounds like YouTube rewards you if we comment on your videos. Assuming that's true I am going to make an effort to comment on more of your videos. When I went to Budapest I did the usual tourist things as you mentioned. The Castle, Chain Bridge, Central Market and riding the second oldest metro out to Hero's Square & Szechenyi Spa. You are lucky to have a friend that can show more of the country & the genuine Hungary! Next month I am going to Croatia, and I see from the map Lake Balaton is right over the hill from Zagreb.

Thanks for putting this together. It is on a place I never have been to, and I guess unlikely I will get to. I found it all intereting.
