Just make sure shavings are not left in the tube. They will block the nozzle and won't come out by themselves - done that :D

This trick is actually 1 I should do IMMEDIATELY ! So much effort saved for layer change/colour changes in a print.

Funny coincidence - just "invented" this exact thing yesterday after I was annoyed getting the filament stuck by the bowden tube multiple times. I had to use multiple drill sizes from large to small in order to work.

Chuck. You must have esp cause sometimes I have a Dickins of a time reloading filament. I get it thru the extruder but it hangs up at the Bowden tube. I’ve wound up loosening coupler. Now I’ll try that “trick”. Thank You

If you are into r/c a body mount ream works well too, maybe slightly better.

What I do, is I always cut the filament at an angle, achieves a similar purpose.

that's safer than what i do. i jam a soldering iron into it until it has a good flare. it makes loading easier and that tubing doesn't get forced out of the coupling ever. the little tabs inside always break off and they can end up causing a clog or a short.

Chuck have you seen the rc car tapering tool. I'll send you a link. You might like it better because it can give a better slope than the drill bit. Learned it from @breaksnmakes several yrs ago. Glad you showed this because it is a great idea to use.

I always have a problem trying to load it in the filament detector

What size drill bit are you utilizing?

But that ruins the coating on the inside.

This is kind of the reason I went with a direct drive extruder. 😅

Every DIYer needs some chamfer/countershink bits

my drill bit must not be sharp enough so I use a cone grinding bit from my dremel

I bet a hole chamfer tool would work easier.

Switch to a Capricorn and you won't have as many loading issues

another trick i like to do is replace that shitty tube with a more heat resisting one

As apposed to spinning it automatically.
