When I announced to the hot guy on the Big Island that I wanted to learn Kiteboarding ~ He told me"NO YOU DON"T ! " This went on for quite a while... he wasn't the articulate type. Turns out that he thought I was TOO OLD !!! Well finally he explained that if I REALLY REALLY REALLY WANTED to LEARN kiteboarding ... that I should MOVE to North Carolina ! Then I was about 58 ~ 60 years old. Now I'm in North Carolina and have been doing it for 5 years and let me tell ya that there's a learning curve. Be prepared to eat some poo. Face Plants are very common till ya learn to fly that kite. The older you are the slower you go folks ! NC is perfect in that there's lots of very shallow inshore lagoons and tidal flats and wide sandy beaches. THAT WAS the TICKET !!! I haven't seen a rock yet but there's a wreck and some buoys that make navigation hazardous. It's not for everyone. The main thing is to never give up. Buy your equipment and commit. Get late good quality gear, spend the money. You will not have obsolete equipment and it'll be much safer. The main thing that guy was rude about was me not becoming a cautionary tale and getting a beach closed for the kitemen THAT"S THE BIG CONCERN. Go ahead and kill yourself but not at our spot. Kitesurfing is extremely dangerous at tricky spots in awkward conditions(LIKE THE BIG ISLAND) and it takes years to be fluent in this new universe and language. Watch as many tutorials as possible to gain the feel of what is right vrs wrong. GET LESSONS ~ DON"T TRY TO TEACH YOUR SELF !!! You will kill yourself and possibly someone else if you do . PLENTY OF KITEMARES (see YOU TUBE) I have almost died a few times but it does get safer because the learning curve is taming the kite and the equipment is getting safer too with safety innovation ... YER WELCOME ~

beautiful cross offshore condtions then died haha sat in the water for a good hour just waiting for the wind to come back getting futher and further out to sea, lucky it did eventually, important lesson to trust your knowledge self rescue not an option current to strong would have ended up stranded in the ocean probably not being able to swim baack, also the wildlife...
