Discover What $100 Buys in a Russian Supermarket in 2024 Amid Sanctions 🇷🇺

In this video, we take an in-depth journey through a typical Russian supermarket, exploring how 1,000 days of global sanctions have reshaped prices, availability, and everyday life for Russian citizens. If you’ve ever wondered about the real-world impact of these economic measures, you're in the right place. We'll walk aisle-by-aisle, giving you an uncensored look at the changes in fruits, vegetables, meat, dairy, and more.

🔎 Key Takeaways You’ll Learn:

How the cost of essential goods has shifted in Russia.
Availability and scarcity of imported products.
How Russian citizens are adapting to economic changes.
The quality and variety of goods in a post-sanction environment.
We start by exploring the fruits section 🍎 to see how fresh produce has fared. Prices, availability, and quality are examined, with a special focus on seasonal fruits and changes compared to the pre-sanctions era. Then, we move to the milk section 🥛, discussing the prices and availability of dairy products, including fresh milk, cheese, yogurt, and more.

The vegetables 🥦 aisle reveals an interesting twist as local and imported vegetables are impacted differently. Scarcity, price increases, and substitutes are covered in detail. In the meat and seafood section 🍖🦞, we provide a deep dive into price hikes, local sourcing efforts, and how consumer choices have evolved due to limited imports.

In addition, we cover frozen goods ❄️, bread 🍞, chocolates 🍫, coffee and tea ☕, alcohol 🍺, and other essentials. Special emphasis is placed on how Russian citizens are finding alternatives, adapting recipes, and changing their shopping habits.

💡 Why This Video Matters:

Sanctions have drastically affected Russia's economy, and food prices are a primary example of their impact on daily life. By analyzing the availability, quality, and cost of supermarket items, we shed light on the resilience and challenges faced by average Russians.

26:23 Если не ошибаюсь, докторской колбасу называют потому, что её прописывали врачи людям перенесшим голодание. Так же колбаса считалась диетической, так как имела низкое содержание жира.

Hi Comrades. 😀 I know all these products well and the prices for them in different stores in different cities of Russia. And I will tell you that this is a very expensive store in Moscow. Chicken breast, tangerines, sweets, etc. can be bought 2 times cheaper. The other day I bought chicken breast for 240 rubles and wonderful fresh persimmons and tangerines for 130 rubles. Russians, like people in other countries, save money, understand products and know where to buy cheaper 😉☝️😀 In total, I would have collected such a basket easily for $ 50. In Moscow or at home in the Samara region.

Visa are actually trying to get back in to the market, but their market share is already covered ;) beyond the Mir cards, Russia also adopted the Chinese payment system and today most terminals accept those as well. In fact in most places you can make payment via a QR code directly from your phone, so Apple Pay is longer in play

Ну и цены в этих Перекрёстках... в других магазинах вы бы сэкономили ещё 1500-2000 рублей.

Thanks Alan! This was quite informative. Shrinkflation happens in Russia too! (Rocket to me tastes like some poisonous weed you pulled from the garden!) The prices are very similar to here in Australia-The meat, dairy, chocolate, eggs, pizza, bread and alcohol are a bit cheaper there. (Chicken breast here is $9 to 11/kg) Its cool how you got so close to $100US (Do you think they thought you guys were crazy with Daria dancing away about paying for the groceries?!😆) Thanks and stay well!
