The only problem come when you're a Romanian citizen and you don't earn 100 or 200 lei/day of work. The prices in Romania seems low just compared with other currencies. But, as a born and rase Bucharest citizen, I really miss Bucharest sometimes.

As a romanian, I can confirm the city is very affordable, but only if you have an EU Grade salary. People earn between $350 and $1000 per month after taxes and stuff. About 10% earn more than that. So you can see why the prices are cheap.

There are very cheap alternatives to what you've got. For example, 100 lei can be equal to 1 week of great and consistent homecooked meals.

Also, at the metro station, most likely you walked past a Fornetti. They sell a 250 ml of coffee with optional milk for about 3 lei.

The city center restaurants is more expensive than other restaurants. For example, you get a huge meal with french fries, grilled chicken breast and salad for 30 lei from Socului Kebap.

The true problem here isn't the cost of food or the cost of bills, but the cost of rent and mortgages.

I always recommend freelancers and people that don't rely on living in a particular city to move to Bucharest. For example, I earn $2000. I love a very luxurious life, just because everything is cheap.

5:53 I was born and live in Bucharest and yes, having many parks I think is Bucharest's best aspect. You should have come in late spring or summer, when the parks are really green and lush with vegetation! Early March is still winter for us.

Romania in general is quite cool in special for tourism which to be honest I think it's the main key of the country since we have plenty of nice places that allow most of the tourists to enjoy them like countrysides, stories. 22.90$ doesn't seem much in dollars but for the Romanian currency, 100 Lei can do you a nice job for the day, in special if you choose other cities as well that are smaller. Bucharest is such a great place but it's a bit more expensive than the usual city - it and Cluj being the most expensive. You might enjoy the landscape "Bridge of God" is something really cool, Sphinx on Bucegi and the mountains in general are amazing, it make you feel like you are in nature.

Come back and visit each season of the year. You will discover a new city each time. Bucharest is a paradox city, Old-new, same-different and love-hate it.... Finally, you'll cannot live elsewhere even if you'll want to runaway ... This feeling I got only in Paris and Istanbul.

Life in Romania is better than you would think from the statistics. This is because 96.4% of Romanians are homeowners and do not pay rent. We are on the 1st place in Europe in terms of percentage.
