INSANE! Walking on #Chernobyl Reactor 3 in Ukraine. 🇺🇦

Taken in late November 2021 only 3 months before Russia invaded Ukraine. This was an unforgettable trip to Chernobyl, having the opportunity to tour inside the reactor facility and walk on top of Reactor Number 3. This sits just across the hallway from Reactor 4 which exploded and is inside the new safe confinement.

I just made this short as the day was one I won't forget, made a good friend in Max who was the private tour guide and lost his livelihood as a result of the war. So it was an eye opening day and to watch and think only three months later Russians attacked and took it over.

I hope the war ends soon and it reopens to the world as we need to learn that this small explosion, insignificant compared to what one modern strategic ICBM can do, left a zone 30kms around uninhabitable. Even more important given the world is currently closer to a nuclear war than at any time since the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Fun fact: Reactor 3 was the last reactor to stop producing power (shutting down in 2000), Reactors 1 shut down in 1996, following an order to decomission the plant, and reactor 2 shut down after a turbine fire

I’m actually impressed these look exactly like the ones in the show. It’s not a huge detail, but some big budget shows miss even details like that.

All those gray collumns would be fuel rods and pressure chambers, red ones are automatic control rods, green ones are manual control rods, blue ones are neutron(radiation) detectors, and yellow ones are also control rods but Short ones from below reactor

I just wanted to correct you on something, this isn’t the upper biological shield (UBS), this is the lid, the UBS is below the lid, and then under the UBS is where the core was.
