Beethoven: Symphony No. 5, I. Allegro con brio

It’s the most famous piece of classical music of all time – a Philharmonia recording of this movement was even chosen to travel on the Voyager spacecraft, to show anyone else in the universe the heights of human culture and achievement. But why? Listen to how Beethoven builds a whole structure out of that opening four-note pattern – sometimes the instruments of the orchestra seem to be throwing it to each other like a ball, sometimes it reappears quietly and slowly builds up in overlapping layers, and sometimes the whole orchestra is playing it in unison, giving it everything they’ve got.

Played this about a month ago for my youth orchestra, I was on first bassoon and Beethoven is a great bassoon writer, It was a lot of fun to play, I like the third movement the best, great playing all of you here! So talented!!!

Yes please. This is muscular Beethoven, not some wimpy effete “period” band - I’m convinced without a doubt if the composer was able to hear this he would exclaim, Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined my music could sound so powerful and so great!

It would be helpful if you credited the conductor in the blurb not just at the end of the video. And this does not look like the Festival Hall (it sounds a whole lot better...). Where was it? Excellent interpretation. I could hear details in the woodwinds that do not always come out as clearly.

I love the music, Beethoven was just incredible. But the fact that Philharmonia Orchestra (London, UK) has 122K subscribers and this video only have 97 likes is hilarious to me.

Sending this into space seems like false advertising to me.
While the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is satisfied calling Earth "mostly harmless", if there are folk out there considering a visit and they're informing that decision with reference to this, they'll be mightily disappointed when they arrive and are sure to leave strongly negative reviews on the galactic TripAdvisor:
"I Visited Earth So You Don't Have To: I cannot, in good conscience, recommend a visit to this planet. While parts of it are still rather lovely, the inhabitants are systematically and enthusiastically destroying them. The culture I was led to believe I'd find is far from enlightened, and the high art shared on their probes is an anomaly. Avoid 👎"
