New to this channel, but i'm loving all the KETO and Fasting related stuff. I've been getting ready to try keto, buying canned fish, olives, sunflower seeds, chiaseeds and whatnot, i couldn't have done this without your valuable insights and tips. The grossery hauls are especially informative. Love from Denmark <3

(Edited note: As a strong coffee lover i approve of all your science on coffee. I had a doctor compare tar from cigarettes to coffee a few days ago, what an idiot i thought but i couldn't be bothered educating him)

I ate one calorie on my fasting day and died the next day. After one day of being dead and not consuming a single calorie, I came back to life. True story.

Intermittent fasting, used in conjunction with a low carb diet, has been pivotal in me losing over 100 lbs to where I am the slimmest I have ever been in my life at the age of 43. My current BMI is 19.9, which is on the low end of the normal range, where as before I was firmly in the obese category. If the minuscule amount of calories in coffee were a major hindrance to fat burning when fasting, it certainly has not manifested itself in my nearly 5 years of doing intermittent fasting with low carb dieting. I consume a pretty substantial amount of coffee daily - anywhere from 16 oz to 32 oz of coffee per day. When fasting, I rely on coffee as a psychological crutch to help me endure the longer fasts Before listening to this very informative video, I had no idea that coffee's inherent properties enhances the fat burning benefits of a fast. Thank you Thomas for that information. Now I know that, aside from my personal experience as well the experience of many other people, that coffee does not impair fat burning during a fast, we now know that there are established mechanisms that prove that coffee does not impede fat loss during a fast. Its always nice to have a scientific rationale to explain what we experience and what we "know" intuitively. It just makes the case for this way of living more convincing to those who are still on the fence.

I have been fasting for almost 3 weeks now 14/10 6 days a week and when i do eat always low carb. Ive went from 231 to 206 in 2 and a half weeks!! I also was diagnosed with a fatty liver so that was my main reason for attempting this lifestyle and i LOVE it! Your videos are so helpful! ❤

It would be great if there were more studies done on various types of autophagy and how a few calories from various things might affect it. Its a really complex topic. Thank you for this breakdown, many people fasting need to hear this!

just finished a 72 hr fast.... oh man... so glad coffee/ACV are ok. I run on coffee normally and drink acv w/ polar seltzer as well and being able to drink it through the fast made it much easier physically and especially psychologically. It helped me a lot.
thanks

p.s. the 2d day was the hardest.... blood glucose tanked to 51 end of the day which scared me... but ketones started ramping up... around 4. woke up the 3rd day w/ sugars in the 70's and was relieved. ketones still high.

Thomas you have always said if we think of a good video please ask. You’ve probably done videos on Sugar before but have you ever done one on Sugar and Cancer?? Or maybe this isn’t a good question. The reason Myself and wife started Keto was because Cancer is everywhere in My wife’s Family. There’s been many Family members on my wife’s side that have died from Cancer. If you could ever do a video on Sugars and Cancer we’d appreciate it. Thanks Dan & MJ.

You said it’s all about that insulin spike. So yes the doughnut vs coffee for sure! I’ve always heard that as we age we need less calories but more nutrition. So fasting /just eating one or two meals over 8-12 hrs is a great thing!! Thanks!

Thank you for this video. You made me realize I am already reaping great benefits being keto more than carbbed calorie restriction alone. I should be easier on myself and not freak out over fasting windows and autophagy, just calories in and calories out instead- and feeling my best. 😊

It’s so true, when you feel like you’ve “failed” your rules and took away all the benefits, you struggle more. I think that’s the only reason I’ve had so much success with fasting so far.
You didn’t talk about the mental aspect of it! So, I’ve been doing rolling fasts for 5 weeks now to drop all the fat quickly. I’ve had a little heavy cream in my tea or coffee, on occasion and have been fine with that. Does it technically pull me out of a fast? Ofcourse. Do I sometimes need that to be completely fine with fasting so much, yeah probably 😉
Great video, as always!!
