Employers needs to stop using social media as a way to impede candidates from being hired. Whatever people do in their social time is their own business and employers shouldn’t mix people’s private life and work life. As long as they have a clean background check and meet the job requirements then that should be enough.

That's invasion of privacy. It's none of their damn business. But, if an employee asked their employer/supervisor if they have a Facebook account, that would be different. If you want to know about someone's 24/7 life, then pay them for 24/7 work.

An employer surely cannot ask for passcodes because it is against the terms of service of most social media sites to give that info to any third party.

I agree with everyone in the comments, I will never give my password nor anything like that, that's uncomfortable and a invasion of privacy and if you wanted to show that "you volunteer " you can just say that but it most likely has nothing to do with the job.

I think HR and the talent/recruiting process is completely broken and useless. Employers use it to check for illegal activity etc… but where is the line drawn? What stops a recruiter from just not liking the way you look and deciding not to move you forward for an interview? I ain’t crafting nothing, I am who I am and if your jacked up system does not want to hire me because of my selfie then you are not a company I want to work for, works both ways. Personally I think AI should take over the recruiting process.

What are they looking for there and what would make them say yes or no? Are they using this or googling to replace a real background check? I mean if you can pass a DOJ/FBI background check do they think that because someone said something about you on the internet that that don't want to waste the money on a "real" background check?
