Plumbing Done Wrong or Right?

A spigot/hose bibb extended out of the outside wall this far is not a plumbing problem we see very often , maybe a 1/2 inch to an 1 inch but 6 inches, crazy right? We never know if the the slab plumber put the pipe this close to the wall or the concrete guys may have moved it out of their way, whatever the reason the problem has to be addressed. It is important to get some type of insulation between the pipe and the outside wall!

A 4" frost free hose bib with a drop ear or billy with a street 90 would both fit in that space. You obviously will not line up with the pipe coming up from the ground, so you'll have to do some work to offset and bring them together. But you can get it done. And if an issue ever happens you can unscrew the hose bib from the outside without cutting the wall again.

Have an aunt that moved to GA… boy was she surprised to wake up to no water one day because her pipes were frozen. Crazy weather patterns we are seeing these days. Record freezing temps and snow all over the southern US… where they are not built or prepared for any of it!

I have one. PEX. PEX expands and doesn't split like copper does when it freezes. Also, an access panel with a shutoff valve so it can be drained for winter will work.

You could converter to pex and do a loop in the wall with one of those frost proof hose bibs

Yes. Ball valve on horizontal, and a T on the riser instead of a 90. Bottom of t put another valve. Shut the water for winter open outside spigot and open the valve on the bottom of the t. Drains out.

It will freeze again. Better to relocate the faucet where you can use a frost free. and solder the joints

I use heat tape that has a thermostat built in think its uses 44 watts when it comands electric, it gets to -5 in winter and the water pipe that comes from the ground to my house think its 4 ft is the only part of my house that used to freeze and after putting heat tape no freeze and last night in the mountains was -7

Most of the time you do not need a hydrant when it's cold out, so you can shut it off with a valve that is in line with the hose bib, about 3 feet away or 2 and a 1/2 feet away from where the hose bib exit the house. When it starts.
To get cold just shut off the valve and then go outside and open the exterior valve to bleed it

Do not seal it back up in the wall, put a cold air return vent over the hole so the inside air heats it. Spray foam on the backside of the wood of the exterior.

I’m a residential plumber and I won’t ever install heat tape under trailers. I’ve had customers ask me why and it is not worth the liability at all.

Look up Prier P-164 coming in at 1-1/2” length for $65 freeze-less, anti siphon. That and some canned spray foam around the pluming on the exterior wall.

Put in a valve and an access panel, shut the valve off and leave the panel open during cold weather

Yea I’d say 6” frost free with a 1” ABS sleeve and no more recess. They’re gonna have to repannel that part. If I remember right they make a 4” but probably gonna freeze again anyway how close they stubbed to the exterior 🤷‍♂️ no full winning plays unless they’re able to pay to repose it further in the wall

I put a stop and bleed in my last house. Shut off inside and drain inside. No freeze ups, ever.

Electric heat tape with built in thermostat.

Maybe a heating wire or a T junction with two valves one for draining the line and one to turn the water off so you can drain the line but hey I'm an electrician not a plumber
