Plumbers totally made up the myth that drano destroys your pipes so you’d call them instead

Pro tried to charge me $1500 for 2 drains. Spent $50 on drain O and guess what ? IT WORKED

These are no more corrosive than standard bathroom cleaning products… so people should stop cleaning their sinks and toilets. A $10 bottle of Drano for a routine clog beats a $75 service call to a plumber

Nah rather not call y’all to charge me $100 for a ten minute job😂😂

A plumber saying to hire a plumber to fix the problem is literally what every plumber would say, because they want more money

Plumbers hate them cuz they damage pipes that plumbers have to come fix and get paid for ? ….. false in that case they love it

Hey plumber here. The aisle that I think should be burned to the ground at Target is the aisle that has flushable wet wipes. The only drain cleaner that damages pipes is a high acid drain cleaner when you have cast iron or copper drains. You can tell that drain cleaner apart from the rest cuz it will come in a plastic container then come with a bag sealed around it. Don't buy that stuff. I encourage people to go out and by three basic plumbing tools. A plunger preferably two, a closet auger for toilets, and a quarter inch hand powered 15 ft or 25 ft hand snake. With those three tools and a couple YouTube videos you will save yourself several hundred dollars a year. Use any one of them once and they are all paid for. One thing you should know about drain pipes is that they all clog. If your house is over 75 years old you have to have those three items.

I’ll take the 5.98 price over the $250 for the same job

If you use it a lot and in very old homes it may damage the pipes. Most newer homes should not be that much of a problem with modern pipes.

If draino destroyed pipes, then Plumbers would LOVE it. Do you know how much they charge for excavating out a damaged mainline buried 4 feet in the ground? I worked for RotoRooter last year as a camera technician. My job was to look for damage and sell pipe repairs/replacements. We charged $7000 for a 10'x 4' mainline repair. A damaged pipe is like a goldmine for people in the plumbing business. Drain cleaners on the other hand, got a $200 referral, just for recommending my services to the customer.

A plumber died from our competitor company a few years ago. The home owner used a drain chemical but did not tell the plumber. He then used their company chemical which reacted to the chemical in the drain. Combine that with being in the bathroom (small room) the fumes took him and he died

Wouldn’t these products work for the interests of plumbers in general? The destruction they cause opens up opportunity to service these problems. Where is the flaw in this logic?

As a plumber drano and other clog products really only have effect on copper and thin cast iron drain lines. Pour all that shit down you want doesnt matter to me id rather repair a rotted drain line than snake a clog. For people with grease in their kitchen sink line i recommend green gobbler from home depot

Plumbers are also into much the same corruption as the construction industry, unfortunately there is no customer service anymore anywhere, a lot of these companies in the service industries do botched jobs and charge an arm and 3 legs. Plumbers do not always give good advice, Not all liquid cleaners are good or work, but most of the time people can fix minor clogs with liquid cleaners that are not harmful to pipes, you can even do home made cleaners that work. Remember that drano and other liquids are in plastic containers, are they eating through them ? NO, so I'm pretty sure they would not eat through PVC pipes either - though frequent use of corrosive liquids could eat through the linings, glue, paste / fittings, and then you have a $50k - $100k mess ! So are plumbers better at getting your clogs taken care of ? NOT ALWAYS - some plumbers will use high pressure blasters to push away the clog - now THAT is dangerous - not only can it push the clog further down the line (you do not want that) but it can burst through unstable pipes - I've known someone who had this done by a company, which caused her pipes to burst and she had to spend $25k in

Then you have plumbers who use drain snakes, either through a cleanout area, drain itself, P-trap etc, but some of those electric augers are powerful they can also break old pipes, even new ones.

A gentle liquid for treating mild clogs and as a preventing to future clogs sounds like the better bargain Plumbers hate liquid drain cleaners because they want you to call them and be ripped off of hundreds of $ - most of the time they charge you $100-$200 just to come over, then $100-$120/hour for labour, and often a botched job

If you are a DYI home owner you can save hundreds of thousands of $ in being scammed and ripped off.

Not all plumbers are bad, many are, in my opinion :)
