I'm Making a BIG GAME Slingbow and You Can't Stop Me

Today I'm beginning the process of inventing a sling bow (a rubber powered arrow shooter) that uses mechanical advantage to get some very slow yet powerful speargun rubber to sling arrows at hunting bow speed. Spoiler alert; it's gonna be epic.

I've already got some bonkersly good ideas for how to improve the speed, so make sure to sub and ring the bell too see how far this goes. Who knows, we may bag that fighter jet after all.

My brother in Christ; when I last tuned in regularly to your channel, you were worried about potentially selling the house and quitting youtube just to make ends meet. Now that I've finished this video and you announce that you are going fulltime content creating, with a blooming family, I'm happy to see where the effort and perseverance has brought you. Much love with the future, and I'll be rooting for you. Keep up the excellent work!!!

I'm studying to be an architect and have taken some pretty crazy physics and math classes but you unironically explained pulleys and mechanical advantage really really well.

1) the bow looks sick and who doesn't love some good physics
2) congrats on being full time on youtube cant wait for more videos!

OK, but why was that pulley explanation literally the best one I´ve ever gotten in the past 30 years? Something about it just made it all.. 'click' in my mind for the first time.

9:12 I’ve been watching since the days of Non Lethal By Choice, I’m sure many watching don’t even know that name. Gosh is it so wonderful to hear those words “I’m full time YouTube now”

I’m so grateful that you worked so incredibly hard to make this happen. I’m disabled and your videos always bring me so much joy.

This channel has been an utter roller coaster the past few years but I am so excited for this chapter to begin and I can’t wait to see where it goes!

Eli, keep the metal low friction pulleys. But try this...
Waxing the string was a great idea but polish the wheels as well where the string contacts. Think of it like polishing a feed ramp in a gun barrel.

Eli, this was such a fun video!! As a non-car guy I’ve been enjoying the truck series because it shows how what started with weapon making lets you apply skills to other areas of life, just like whenever you build workout equipment. That said, this return to form was awesome! It also felt very satisfying to see you explain what you’d said previously about how for years you’d been using pulleys wrong, and see you apply them correctly. I learned a lot, this was fun, and seeing your son enjoy watching his dad was delightful.
Also, I had been wondering why the videos had been a little less frequent, but I had assumed you were busy with something else, since you’d mentioned in a q&a that being marred means if you aren’t making videos, it’s NOT because you aren’t working. Now that you’re back to full time I can’t wait to see what’s next!!

I really enjoy watching Eli discover bit by bit, why actual crossbows/slingshots are build the way they are. After making a dozen of his own designs just by feeling.

0:18 That stance reminded me a bit of Joergsprave. You two should make a sick crossbow together.

Love ZNA. When i was a kid i saw his video about making a longbow from PVC & fiberglass driveway markers. At the time i had a 2nd hand garage sale bow but it was super weak & horribly inconsistent. I followed his tutorial & it worked, and learned stuff along the way. Since then ive started a career in fabrication & working on getting up a business.

Hey eli! A few notes on dyneema that I think you should know incase you ever use it again
Dyneema is incredibly static material. That's the proper term as opposed to rigid. it only stretches 3.5% when pulled to its break force, which is absolutely insane
Now when it comes to how strong it is, the MBS or minimum breaking strength is incredibly misleading. They get the MBS by wrapping it a ton of times around a big round thing, and pulling super slowly to get the maximum breaking strength they can manage. You *cannot* get MBS under normal use, ESPECIALLY if you tie knots in it. Knots weaken dyneema by about 60-70%. Instead of tying knots, you need to splice it assuming its hollow braid dyneema. You can take some cheap thin wire, bend it in half, mark out 1 fid length which is 21 times the diameter of the rope, and splice to your hearts content. There is some more minutiae to splicing, I could honestly talk for an hour about this stuff, but I just thought you should know

TL;DR dont tie knots in dyneema
