I played for 35 years. Thanks for your time and the video. One of the parts of this that is not really explained and - I think this comes from people who are quite natural at striking, and that they find it relatively easy to hit - is feet position, placement, location, and by relation ball location in relation. And then by extension the strike being straight, undercutting for height, or opening wrists to allow slicing to the right/up. Many people who can do these things have reached that skill by practise, or by natural ability. But for people who don't have that, working on the mechanics can help. I also think that height of player has to be adaptive, so taller players may need an adapted method, and I think standard stick length works best for people within a certain height range.

I think your direct ball into D and shoulders pointers are correct, but I think in many cases, people take the ball wider due to a defender being within the area of direct entry to D. Peeling to the attackers right takes them away from the static defender, and at pace opens up the striking chance.

Here's a HUGE tip that makes a significant difference to hitting the ball : keep your head still. I.e. don't let it bob up and down. Keep your eyes focussed on the ball as you go to strike so as to keep your head level.
If you bob up and down you are effectively hitting a target that is moving in several dimensions... not easy.
