This might be the best video you’ve done yet mate. I’m playing snooker 30 years and never knew this 👏

I've been playing snooker for nearly 40 years, and this master always shows me something new! ❤

For those that talk about slanted table, editing and other stuff: this actually happens and it's due to the nap on the cloth that has a direction because of the way the cloth is made, DOES NOT happen on worsted cloth like the one used in pool and billiards. It USED to happen until the '50s when napped cloth was used. In several books of that era, the phenomenon is explained by different authors, Willie Hoppe refers to this in his "Billiards aa it should be played" 1945

This can be compared to throwing something light in angle with front facing wind. When the object slows down it loses momentum and the wind effect overpower it and push it the other way. Basically if you strike the same ball as it is dead straight but gently, it should tilt left just at it did when it got to that slow speed

I wouldn't say rarely, maybe in Snooker, but in pool this is an all the time occurance. If you ever have to leave the table you have a high chance of needing this knowledge when it's your turn again. Some of us play where it's illegal to jump, so you have to learn other stuff. The biggest thing to know about this is how much cue elevation you need. Straight on is good for about 1/4 ball. Anything more and you need elevation. The more elevation you need the better it is to take the kick, because you start intoducing other variables that make it a lot less likey for the intended result to occur. Rarely does the first shot come up where you swerve around one ball and then swerve the otherway around a second ball, that is very rare. But going around one ball is very common. Another key thing is stroke speed. The furthest I have made this work with intended purpose is about half a table. After that it becomes unpredictable. It not just about making your ball you also want to make sure you shoot the next ball.

I vaguely knew this theory from another of your videos but have never seen or thought to try how much deflection can be achieved. Awesome short btw.

There's good enough distance to work on the English stroke, amazing! 😅

Refractive index can be used here since its involves the use of n which can give us a better value as the ball hit the first bounce then we get an angle out that bounce after, then the ball goes to the second bounce then calculate another angle using n, then this whole process will be sorted.

You should make a snooker course from beginner to advanced. Love the videos.

Have heard about this about 40 years ago but at my skill has never mattered.

That said I've never seen anyone curl a ball both ways like that so I'm probably not affecting my game. 😂

I'm sure someone has already mentioned this, but the cloth is called 'baize' and has to be brushed routinely to maintain the down-table nap.

Very cool shot! Just so everyone understands this should not work on a pool or Billiards table only a snooker table. Snooker has a distinctly nappy cloth compared to pool and billiard tables that allows for this effect in certain situations. If you're recreating this at home on your pool table then yes you need a leveling asap 911 lol

For those still not clear, the first half of the movement on the cue ball is due to the spin on the ball. The later half is due to the ball going against the cloth at an angle.

Side note: this would not work the same way if you go ‘up’ the table to any of the black-side corner pockets. So don’t get frustrated when you try :))
