What Caused The Betelgeuse Dimming Anomaly? Updates

Betelgeuse has been a center of attraction and research for the scientific community in recent years. The red supergiant Betelgeuse, 642 light-years distant, inexplicably started to dim around the end of 2019, losing up to 60% of its regular brightness. Something really remarkable for a star that is among the ten brightest visible from Earth, and had led scientists to assume that its supernova explosion is near. The initial explanations and theories talked about some kind of large emission from the star that produced lots of dust and blocked the light coming from it, causing the strange dimming effect. We also made a video about the most recent explanation observed from the data obtained from Hubble, so make sure to check that out too. Even if this is precisely what happened here, we still don't know why this happened or why the star had such an extraordinary emission. The real impact was fairly dramatic; the star on the right is what it looked like at its darkest, making this one of the most intriguing mysteries of the previous several decades. Could it be a passing black hole that might have caused the emission from the star? or a swallowed planet? Let’s talk about all that and more.

Surely the best star name ever! Especially if you take it

Interesting to think that whatever it is that we are watching and waiting for, like the star going supernova, already happened a tremendously long time ago! 😵

I hope I'm alive to see Betelgeuse explode, unlikely though I know

1:55 just an fyi the term is exacerbated (made worse), not exasperated (irritated or frustrated). 😊

430 years ago our time this all really happened on Betelgeuse their time .It could have exploded all ready but it has not reached us yet 529 years a go .

I'm still of the opinion that it was a coronal mass ejection that was coincidentally in our direction and just took a while to disperse enough to fade from our view.

I've been looking to see what Betelgeuse' closest neighbor is and I get no answers but, thinking in my SciFi mind says since it doesn't have planets maybe the star close to it does and they are close to a type 2 Civilization and instead of harvesting their own solar system they tapped into Betelgeuse and made some really bad mistake. Somebody else needs to write this story lol.

Don't say its name or things will get problematic!!

Can't be a Dyson's sphere. Orbit is to slowly. Unless it was stationary on the other side of tha star . It would be illogically huge . To good to be true . Also my fav star actually pronounced batel geeze . German word, go figure.

The narrator says 'exasperated' the problem around 1:54. The correct pronunciation is ex-ass-er-bat-ed. Exacerbated. It means to 'make worse'. Exasperated means to run out of patience.

Can dark matter deep say not in front of the stars sight if the telescope but say enough distance to drag th elight away as this dark matter like a large jelly fish passing say twomlight years to the south of the star that then bringing the light lower so the affect is a dim but the centr light a different weight says it is straighter and less affected by the dark matter jeelly fish this suggests the center light been more intense but the overall light volume less but returns to pre Notice

If Betelgeuse dimmed this means the star got smaller therefore Betelgeuse must be going Supernova rn

Some of the statements in this video are very sloppily written. You may want to redo it.
