I started my period for the first time in my life today, it was scary

I’ve used discs since the 90s when they first came out. REVOLUTIONARY. I’ve also tried cups but the suction is so unpleasant and it takes me like 20 minutes to remove. Panic inducing. I probably had the wrong size or something, but the sizing is ambiguous when you’re older but have never given birth. I realise people are icked out by the blood or having to touch blood but I don’t find it a big deal. The only time it’s awkward is if you are in a row of stalls with no easy access to a sink. In that case wet some paper towels beforehand to wipe your fingers off and dispose in the trash in the stall.

Since starting perimenopause I’ve had to double up with period pants (also a nice addition to the toolbox. We are so much better off than my mother’s generation who had to wear belts and thick pads).

I’ve found Flex (and its predecessor) the best fit. I use one for my whole period generally, throwing it out at the end, which cuts down on waste and cost and then you also don’t have to boil your disc before your next period (which is kinda gross if you don’t have a dedicated pot).

I have the Cora. Used it for the first time this past cycle, mine always rotates so getting messy is just how it is with the Cora I guess. I def wanna try the Hello disc!

I have endometriosis and idk what it is but anything inserted for my period (including tampons) are so so painful. Wish I could use something like this but gotta stick to my pads

I’m sorry but can I just add, this is my favorite “model”! There’s something about the netting that has really clicked in a realistic interpretation and I would love to see it used to compare where the cup sits in comparison to the disc.

I used the Instead discs, they were said to be disposable discs, but I did clean and reuse them. I wish I knew that there were these reusable disc around. I did try a couple menstrual cups, but found that I could never get the proper suction. I've stopped menstruating now, but share your info with my daughters and others who are still menstruating.

I love the flex discs! Auto empty for public is great. The reusable one is a little trickier to get the hang of for insertion but def my fav for a tilted uterus
